New Fuji "P&S" ... on Megaperls

I've the feeling that the days of the film P&S are numbered. Including the high-end ones. That Fuji restricts these to the domestic market underscores that. Another pointer is a camera shop near where I live, which has brand new Rollei 35AFM and Contax T2 on offer that won't move, even at a 40-50% discount. Of course, 40-50% off still makes for disgustlingly expensive cameras in the 500 euro range..

Yes, the price is pretty ridiculous; pretty clearly aimed at the collector market. The thing is, if they were to release it to the world market, there might be enough demand to justify a much lower price. At $350-400 I think it would have a market.

I've also seen some test samples in a recent Japanese magazine.
However the price is more than a Voigtlander RF,
or almost equal to Leica M4 here.
So what's the point?
Would have bought one had it been cheaper.
I am also on the look out for the 24mm F1.9
It's no where to be found here.

The 24/1.9 was limited edition as well.
I have looked at the Klasse W again today. You'd be surprised how well made it is when you hold it in your hands. No comparison to the Natura series which is all plastic (and made in Indonesia). The aperture dial on top is also a very neat control that I like very much. It's the perfect travel camera.
Too bad it is just a little bit too expensive...

Indeed, this is the P&S camera I was looking for when I settled on the Natura Black. My favorite focal length, decent manual controls... just way too expensive for my budget. If it was half the price I'd probably jump on one.

No drama, it's just higher than my budget will allow and what my conscience will let me spend on any single camera. Of course, I could always sell off a few from my collection, I suppose...

With that aperture control, it sort of reminds me (in a sideways fashion) of my Ricoh GR1. To which I say "great", but why didn't they do this several years back, when there was a somewhat bigger market remaining for it? (That being said, I'll bet most of them will go fairly quickly.)
And, with the lens having exactly the same basic spec as the Ricoh's (whether the Fuji emulates the Ricoh's ten-blade diaphragm is open to conjecture), why knock yourselves out for the Fuji when you can grab a used GR1 for far less (or, if you insist on spending that much, the wide n' tiny GR21)?

I would agree that the days of the film P & S may be numbered. I tried to get a quote from a shop for trade in value for my Rollei afm35, but they would not take it as they could not get rid of a Nikon Ti they had in stock.
BTW I decided to keep the Rollei as its useful to have some HP5 in for a take anywhere camera.
The Fuji does seem very like the Rollei though and if it were cheaper I may go for it for its wider angel lens.

there are 4 or so new 28mm ones, the top of the line does raw, not so great at high iso though.
I love the Fuji f30, have over 1000 photos taken with it, was planning to sell it, but may just keep it.

I'd agree with Barrett here. I've just sent in my GRIs for a shutter repair and plan to resurrect it alongside my Lecia M's. Not cheap to repair in fact almost as much as i paid for the camera 10 years back 😱 but that 28mm lens is really sweet 🙂

This camera looks like the Rollei AFM35 (I have two of them) that I believe was manufactured for Rollei by Fuji.
