Hi guys! First of all, it´s slow and dificult to wright in english for me! sorry the errors! :bang:
First af all, Í´m geting deep in love with RF and old good glass n´metal stuff!
I started with Digital learn the basics, but i´m moving backwards, i realized it´s not so dificult , and much more Funn using the brains! thinking more and clicking lesser.
I started with My beloved Oly 35 SP, find it here (Buenos Aires) in mint conditioin, the Yashica GSN is coming, and the OM2n to !!

I´v been scaning my negs in the photo store, and find some, not to be B&W, in fact they look sepia or redish THATS NORMAL?? 😕

Here are some of my firsts rolls, comments will be very apreciated!! and yes,that little fellow :angel: is my first son, of course! the subject of 1/2 of my entire hard drive!

Bienvenito Moncho, I have the same thing happen when I scan into PhotoShop and my scanner is set to color. What I do is use the auto color button, then go to channel mixer and select monochrome, then go to mode and change from RGB to grey. I'm sure people here know better ways to maintain a full range of grey but that's what I do. JimG

Welcome to RFf

It sounds like you are using a class of B&W films known as "chromogenics". These films are intended to provide an easy way to use B&W for those who either do not develop their own film or do not have ready access to a professional developing lab.

These films use the same chemical mixtures as is used for color film. If you look on the film cannister you will see that it says to develop the film using the C-41 process - this is the same process as is used for color print film.

When this film is developed you will notice that the negatives have a distinctive orange coloring - very similar to what you see with color negatives.

When you scan this film I find that it is best to set the scanner to "color negative" rather than "B&W negative". Doing so should result in prints that are true B&W and not sepia (I know this sounds "dumb" - but try it).

In any event - if you wind up with sepia coloring in Photoshop - then do a "desaturate" that will get you to true monochrome!

Some of the modern C41 B&W film can be plum-colored.

A sympathetic shop will correct to true B&W, but otherwise you'll need to Photoshop it yourself.

really nice photos! I especially like the second one! I use chromogenic film too. I find that I get better "color" results with Kodak then with Ilford XP2.

Hi George, thank´s for the fast reply! i´m using Tmax 400, think is not chromogenic, but the scann is made by the photo store round here, the guy sayd that is NORMAL and sometimes happen when a B&W neg is scanned ¿? Thats true? So If i buy a Neg scann, sometimes it´s going to happen?

Yes! it´s a little more sacrificed to meter, manual focus,manual rewind etc, but when you get a GOOD one you are 10 times happyer!!! don´t you think? Is like getting involved in the prosess...

The lab you send your pictures too should be able to scan your negs in "grayscale 8 bit" instead of RGB colour - it's much faster and makes a smaller file - you can then convert to RGB in photoshop if you so wish.
Rather than buy a new scanner (which for a dedicated fim scanner is expensive) ask them (the lab you use) and if they can't do this i'd ask around at other labs.

The store is presumably saving the scans to a CD or other digital storage device.

When you pick up your scans take them home and Photoshop them yourself. Photoshop Elements is the software to go for.

Same happened to me here one time. Despite all the effords, and after 2 prints, the man on the store could only get me some "sepia" prints. I went to a "pro" lab and they could print in plain B&W no problem. I thought that in the first time, the man didnt had the knowledge to handle cromogenic film or the equipment was not calibrated ...

Fede,

You are absolutely correct that Tmax 400 is not chromogenic but true B&W!

Sounds as if your developer is screwing up big time.

Find another lab. This should not happen!
