Hello to everyone on the forum. I'm new to the forum today and I also just got my first rangefinder last Friday. An M6.

Welcome to RFF Jmiothy and congrats on the M6 you won't be disappointed and please post some results from it in the gallery, when you have some time 🙂

Welcome, and thats a pretty nice camera to get into RF with! Post some photo's asap 🙂

Jmiothy, welcome from one who is also fairly new here. You will find a lot of friendly, helpful people here.

I have been in and out of Leicas most of my life and still have one foot in the digital domain, but my heart lies here with film and the wonderful mechanical instruments.

You will have many satisfying experiences with your M6!

Welcome to the forum Jmiothy! 🙂 A great first choice; it was mine too. Now you need a lens - you are on a slippery slope... 😀

I already have a lens - its a 50mm Summicron.

But now i need a 35mm and a 90mm oh and a 28mm would be nice too 😀

This is a personal opinion, but get a 28 before you get a 35 lens--35 and 50 are pretty close to eachother in viewing area. ymmv, however, depending on subjects.

Welcome, for sure!

Then I suppose I shall just have to get both ASAP!
Sounds reasonable to me! The 50mm has a 46° angle of view and the 35mm has 63°, quite usably wider, in my opinion... and the 28 has a 76° angle; not quite as different proportionally as the 50 & 35, but now the angle is getting pretty wide!

Some also figure that the 75mm lens is "too close" to 50mm for them, and that's a valid opinion but the 75mm has a 32° angle of view which seems plenty different to me. It's not all that far from the 90mm though, having a 27° angle. I like 'em all; great to have the choice!

Thanks for the tip, Jon, but I really dooo need em.

I was out earlier putting myself through my paces with the new M6 and, whilst I have always been an advocate of Vic Blackman's ethic of your legs being the best zoom lens, there were occasions where i kept reaching into the bag to pull out the SLR just to be able to use different focal lengths.

But the good news is that I think I could probably manage is I had just a 28, 35, and 90. But would I be missing out by not having a 135 as well?

Decisions, decisions, decisions
