New Leica Lens 25% Tariff for USA?

Such a tariff will make people more likely buy used equipment from the EU.
Get a used SL now, and if needed, get a used SL2 a year from now?

BH lists it as a new item ''coming soon'' for $ 5,995.00. When you add it to your cart today, I suppose BH is legally bound to sell it to you at that price.

Raid,

It seems that some Americans are trying to lock-in pre tariff prices. I cited this guy who locked in the price at Adorama because it was backordered. Already it seems the prices have increased for those placing new orders today at Adorama.

The limited availability of a newly released camera, and the continued limited availability of say the APO Crons with L-mount, is already started a scramble of sorts.

I just e-mailed one dealer to get on a list, I'm going to call my local Leica Store also.

Trying to avoid paying an extra $1.5K for a SL2. What would be worse is paying that extra $1.5K and if sometime after November 2020 Trump gets voted out or impeached and the tariffs are then removed at some future date. $1.5K is not toilet paper to flush down the drain.

There is an expression the rich say, "No one ever got rich by paying taxes."

Interesting to note how the Presidential election will effect and impact my photography.

O-T-L

I think that is what happened to that APO 35 Cron buyer I cited. The new price if you placed an order today at Adorama is $1.2K higher than the pre tariff price. Ouch.

If this is true we can be pretty sure this will trickle down to the SL2 eventually.

This is painful.

I got the heads up on how the tariffs will be handled. In January expect a 10% increase in pricing on all lenses.

I was told that the prices on the SL2 and Q2 will not increase.

So in the end it is just what someone wrote in an earlier post on this thread. The consumer pays 10% more and Leica gets a 15% "haircut" to make up the difference. Everyone takes a hit and shares the pain.

I also fact checked on the pricing of the APO 35 Cron at Adorama. What was reported in the Leica Forums was that the pre-tariff price was $4495.00 and that a new price was reported of $5695.00, but today's price at Adorama on this lens is in fact $5095.00. This $500.00 increase is about 10%.

I'm happy that I secured mine at $4495.00 and pretty much contacted a dealer at the perfect time for immediate shipping.

Who would think that Leica lenses would have such price swings like barrels of oil on a spot market. The $500.00 increase at Adorama is a speculative "gouging" at this point. The across the board price 10% increase is suppose to be in January.

Buy your glass now before the price increase.

Also I was told that I'm on the "A" list, and that when I return back to the U.S. that I should call.

Another price check on the APO 35 Cron: at B&H the price is also $5095.00.

A $500.00 increase already.

My guess is that this pre-mature price increase is due to a tight supply and high demand.

Seems like $5095.00 is the new going price for an APO 35 Cron at this point. I checked with other dealers.

Will the January 10% price increase also effect this lens? Seems like the 10% increase already got priced in.

I can see this lens being a hot seller for Leica because it is truely great.

Boy was I lucky in securing mine.

This is excellent news! Now I can ask 25% more if I sell my lenses!
Now THERE's a Glass-half-full kind of guy!

Presumably it wouldn't have much effect on the majority of us, who can't afford the ludicrous prices of new Leica gear and look for used bargains.

Cheers,
Dez
