New M2 user arrived but shutter lags

kyle: That advice is like a wonderful inversion of how badly bid sniping pisses people off. I'm going to remember that in the future.

Personally, that's what I'd do, just based on the guy's defensive response. Anyone who's a good seller wouldn't be getting that defensive in the first place, IMHO.

Unless the seller explicitly said that the camera was perfect, and speeds were accurate, I'd say you got a typical ebay buy.

Sometimes you get a real gem, but often things are not quite as nice as you imagined they would be.

The camera is useful, as is, and will be better with a CLA.

I've had similar experiences, and wrote of the less that perfect condition as a lesson in being careful of what I buy.

One way to leave feedback on something like this is to enter "positive" feedback, with a "lukewarm" comment, like "just ok", or "ok, I guess". Other buyers can read between the lines, and he can't retaliate with a negative without leaving himself open to arbitration.

I'd say "live with it" and be more careful next time.

M2 is sweet. Enjoy it!

exercise might bring it back, warm up some of the oils, and get things going again. i'd say just use it for a while and see, and if it doesn't improve send it off for a cla when you something else to shoot with while it is away.

You will be lucky if the curtains don`t leak too. Do some tri x at 1/1000 and 1/500 and see if you get streaking in even toned subjects. That way you can get it all fixed at once.

I have curtains leak where the holes can`t be seen by eye.

I just stay off flea bay or limit yourself to old glasses and can openers, non electric.

Brian, I have been exercising the shutter, which was a good idea, but no great improvement yet. I think this might help. We are also going to a warmer climat next week, so maybe that will also help.
MelanieC, I followed your M3 story. And although I have used Sherry Krauter for my M3, and several lenses, I think I might try someone else when we get back from Puerto Rico (if it gets any worse).
Kyle, Although I have thought about doing the neg. feedback, I don't think I could wait. If I do that I will do it soon. I would want to make an impression on this seller, that might change their practices more than just piss them off. Yes I am a bleeding heart.
RonaldM, we had a great sunny day in CT yesterday, and I shot lots of 1/500 and 1/1000 shutter speeds. I will develop them later today.
I also shot some color yesterday with all of my lenses (Canon 28, J-12, 40 Cron, 50 DR, I-61, Summitar, and 90 Elmar), and when those come back from the lab if there are great differences I am going to post them.

The m2 that I bought on ebay from a reputable dealer with 100% feedback arrived with an overlapping shutter.

I posted positive feedback- the camera arrived quickly and was in very nice condition, and I had paid a price that was in my favor. It was only after running film through it did I discover the problem.
A week later after a trip to Youxin Ye (the man of the hour) it returned 47 years younger, just like the day it was born.
It all depends on your own budget for the purchase, if you think that the additional cost of a CLA will raise the cost of the camera to another price level (i.e. user to used very little) then debate the issue.
However if you really want a M2 and this is it, then invest in a CLA and look forward to using it when it returns.
