New MAMIYA 6 : shot without film

Hello,
I would like to place the new Ilford Direct Print in place of a film for fun.
I realize that the shutter do not function without a film in place, there must be an electric captor somewhere, isn'it?
Do you confirm ? if yes do you have an idea to realize my project?

Hello,
has anybody tried to shot whitout film inside? in my case, when the new Mamiya6 is empty and the back closed I cannot test the shutter.
So:
-If camera has the back open and no film inside I can shot
-if camera has the back close and no film insideI cannot shot
Is this normal, how is it on your Mamiya 6 ?

I hate it when I go buzzing around taking brilliant, perfectly exposed and composed shots* only to find the camera empty.

Oh wait, that doesn't happen - thanks to this stupid safety feature. (Which saves my butt way more often than I try to test cameras.)

Film is far cheaper than missed shots.

I have try to left rolls on the left and on the right placement thinking that these rolls could set some capters on. But it still does not shot !
So I leave my idea to expose a paper Ilford direct-print in place of the roll-film!

Could you try cutting a piece of the paper long enough that it would feed from spool to spool? Not sure how many frames you'd get.
Or, try this: cock the camera with the back open, put your paper in, close the camera and then shoot?

Hello

I think you can activate the shutter by rolling
an empty film spool oh the LHS by hand, and then winding on the film lever.

Give the spool a turn to the right [the correct
direction for film winding.

I cannot vouch that it is a safe thing to do.
But seems to work.

On the Mamiya 7 you can test the shutter by opening the film door and then firing the shutter.

@janwilliams:hello, on M6 also we can shot with the film door opened, but not when closed without any film engaged.

Next time you shoot a roll of 120, if you are developing yourself, save the backing paper. Put that through the camera, it should trick it into thinking that you're shooting film.

@keytarjunkie, yes I used to develop myself so I Have the backing paper. I'll try your idea but I have to take care with the placement of paper under the backing paper. So I'll experiment this.

I agree completely with this statement. I am personally glad that my camera has this safety feature. I tend to be a little complacent, and it is common for me to forget to load my camera. I would lose a lot of great shots if not for this feature. I have been trying to find a decent camera shop in my area, and so far have been unsuccessful. I was thinking about checking out the reviews on Angie's List to see if I have any luck finding someplace there. Would anyone advise this approach? I have never been to the site, so I'm really not sure what to expect. Thanks.
