New Mamiya 7 User, scanner quarry

I was fortunate recently to acquire an M7 and 80mm lens, and I am absolutely loving this camera! I will have pics to post as soon as I get a decent scanner. I am rather torn between getting an Epson 4990, or saving up and getting a Nikon 9000. The 9000 will provide better results, of course, but is several times more expensive (indeed, more than twice as much as I paid for the camera and lens.) Is the Nikon really that much better than the Epson when scanning at 2000dpi?

What do you all use for a scanner?

I use an Espon 4990. I havent scanned 6x7 yet, but for 35mm and 4*5" its great.

I use a Minolta Scan Multi Pro, it is expensive and it takes a while to scan. I have not tried any other larger scanner so I cannot compare. I have no complaints so far, I have owned it for a year.
Well, maybe it is not so expensive after all, it costs less money than a Epson RD-1 body at least.. 😉

4990 all the way, for the value, and if you ever do 4x5. The way I see it, 4x5 will become more popular among film enthusiasts as the digital resolution increases. 4990 will grow with you, a far as formats.

9000 is a better scanner for what it does, though.

OK, how about the 4990 vs Canon 9950f? I have heard that the film holders that come with the Canon are a bit better, and it is a little cheaper. Any Canon users care to comment?
