There is no real content here; just my exhuberance at receiving my used X-Pro1 from George Ury (always good to deal with) today. I sold my former one for a D600 adventure, now terminated.

I've updated the firmware, charged the batteries and will soon be a happy shooter again. I got a used 18/2 with the camera and should have a new 35/1.4 tomorrow.

The third lens can wait while I decide between the 60/2.4 or the new 55-200 zoom.

(End of exhuberance.)
 
Nice one Dick. Hope you'll enjoy yourself. I've got the 35mm and the Samyang 8mm with the tiny CV 15mm in between. Considering selling the CV and getting either the 18mm or the 14mm. Having trouble choosing.

It's surprising how many people have sold their D600's for either the X-Pro1 or the X100s. I sold mine and have the X100s on order to add to my three prime lenses and my X-Pro1.
 
Another pleasant surprise coming from the D600: Since this was a used camera (2200 actuations) I did a quick sky shot at f16, then put the file in PS and cringed, waiting for all the particles, dust and oil spots to show up. Nothing. Just nice empty space within the frame.

Yes, Robert, nothing to do but shoot!
 
Don't undersell the "kit lens," the roadmap is really exciting, but the 18-55 is so good sometimes I forget about the other options.

I've heard that. Do you think the zoom is almost as good at 18mm as the 18/2? Right now I have the 18mm and 35mm. It's such a compact outfit I like the concept. But substituting the zoom for the prime 18mm would give even more versatility and still be a small system.
 
there are reports that the zoom at 18 is better than the 18 at 18...
the 18/35 kit is very traditional and works well...the 14 is a killer but it's so much bigger than the 18...the zoom is great, i had it for a brief time...very sharp, not all that big, but i just do not care for zooms...if you like them it's worth the increase in size.
 
My 'new to me' X-Pro 1 arrived this morning and is in pristine condition. The chap I bought it from said there was a scratch on the top plate, though it didn't go through the paint, I eventually found it and can barely see it ( I love sellers who are this honest and open.)

Unfortunately I have no lens as yet (though I tested it with one in a store this afternoon and everything appears to be fully functional and working correctly.)

Now, do I go with the 35 1.4 and save up for a wider lens later (say the 18mm) or go with the 18-55 for a better all round start? Eventually I'd like the 35 1.4 and wider lens and the kit zoom for a good travel option/backup with some extra 'pull.'

Any thoughts/advice?
 
i'd go for the 35...a great all round lens...there seems to be a few 18s for sale used so you might get a better deal there.

Why not try manual mode first....and make of good use of lenses you already have
 
I went the same route...lightly used X-Pro 1 but new 35/1.4 to start. I figured it was a good one-lens kit since I cut my teeth on 50mm lenses that came with basic SLRs (Pentax K-1000 for sure). No regrets, though I couldn't wait to add the 18/2. Now I'm complete.

Don't let anyone bad-mouth the 18/2...it's at LEAST as good as the Canon 28/1.8 on my 5DmkII.

Terrific camera, BTW...the XP1 has relieved my Leica GAS.

I would say "the usual..." :)

RAW to SilverEfex Pro for grain/contrast. No sharpening...I never sharpen. I'm looking for a 35mm B&W look...sharpening is the digital dead giveaway.
 
I started with the used 18/2, then bought a new 34/1.4. I have no complaints for either. Next week I'm expecting a used 60/2.4 which I will update with firmware and anticipate no focus speed issues. Later, I would consider a couple zooms and the X-E1 to go with them.

Contrasted with my long gone D600 my kit is lightweight, versatile, and a pleasure to use. My sensor glass never seems to get dirty (Nikon, are you listening?).

Maybe you can tell . . . I'm a huge Fuji fan!
 
the 60 is slow...i find it frustrating to use...on the other hand, it is very sharp, i like the small size and i plan on keeping mine.
i posted 2 shots from it yesterday.
