New pic of Pentax FF DSLR

I have just made a "pre-order" for a K-1 for April delivery. Ultimately I just couldn't resist temptation!

So I will have an opportunity to see how my "legacy" lenses work out. Big questions about the old K and M lenses, but I have quite a few of the A and FA primes that should do pretty well.

I recall not being very impressed with the 2.0/24mm FA* performance on the K-100 and K-3, and the little 4/20-35 FA zoom was clearly not up to prime performance, so I expect there will be some disappointments in the old glass when pushed further to cover FF digital. The Limiteds should do well; they'd better!

A lot of togs go on about their Fuji colours, and rightly so, but i reckon Pentax has it in the bag.

agreed, loved the colors of my Pentax *istDs, a bit less those of my K-x, but generally I really like colours of Pentax, those of the K-3 and first samples of K-1 look stunning

Interesting that pixel-shift didn't make the filesize all that much larger... OFF:17922KB ON:19284KB ... Out of camera JPEGs I assume. At this point the four pixel-shift exposures would have been "flattened" into one, so it's a matter of additional color information.

Oh! To be sixty again! I'd jump for the K1 in a heartbeat. I have five K-M mount lenses I'd love to try on it.

Jump for it anyway! Always time to enjoy the goods while you can! I did because I'm younger than I am... :)

Just bought a Pentax full-frame!

Just bought a Pentax full-frame!

All this talk drew me in - I couldn't resist!

Pristine ME Super body with M50/1.7 lens and a hippie strap.
$49.00 shipped from a good seller on APUG... ;)

Congrats, Chris! I have a pair of ME Supers, and that fine lens as well... Enjoy! Slightly depressing it went so cheap...

"Pixel-Shift Resolution" or "Super Resolution", two terms Pentax uses to describe the ability to shift the sensor one pixel up, over, down, and back, making an exposure at each position, and compositing the result, so that each pixel records each color, blue, green, red, green. Still the same number of pixels in the end... or is there, seeing that there will be no need for Bayer interpolation. Or does it do Bayer interpolation separately for each exposure? How does this compare with the Foveon sensor, which I think does about the same thing in one exposure?

The Foveon claims 3x its nominal resolution, so is the K-1 in this mode 3x 36.4 = 109.2 megapixels? Yet, while there's a resolution improvement, I understand that the Foveon doesn't quite live up to that 3x claim. In this mode will the Pentax triple its color bit depth from 14 to 42 bits?

A Pentax advantage is that it brings in a lot more light, 4 correct exposures worth. And this is also its disadvantage, that it takes more time to make 4 exposures than one. Pentax claims their image processor can analyze the file for movement, and repair the effect if it's a minor one like leaves moving in the wind.

They say that a single exposure's data can be extracted from the composite file... Presumably in post processing with Pentax Digital Camera Utility (built on SilkyPix) and presumably the composite will also need that software to make sense of it. Is there such a thing as a 48-bit TIFF file to "export" it to?

And I wonder if the regular resolution raw files (which the camera offers in either DNG or their own PEF) will need a new Adobe Camera Raw version before LR can work with them.
