New RD-1 owner's observations.

Strange. My sample produces pictures that seem to be at pixel level resolution. The noise at 200ISO (very little) is the limiting factor in the ability to discern small details (after sharpening)
One thing I did notice in your post was your reference to shots at F16 not being in focus thruout the rather wide DOF. Well, from my experience, I test at wide open with a lens that can handle it in order to reduce diffraction effects that increase the "circle of confusion" blur. I'm sure you have enough samples at a larger lens opening to discount this but just mentioning it.

I think I may have mispoken: I did not mean that my images are out of focus...they are not out of focus, they just don't have the acuity of my other 6 mp cameras. Shoot a cluster of leaves, and with the RD-1 you get edges that are fairly well defined, but with the Canon D60, the edges of the leaves are very well defined and furthermore, their venation is clearly displayed. So in my broken English, what I am saying is the RD-1 is sharp (not out of focus), just not sharp enough to match the Canon D60.

Thanks, Rex, for your concern and your thoughtful suggestions.

This thread has been very interesting, as your investigations have been very though (sp?) . I wish I had another 6Meg camera to do a little "pixel peeping" comparision. On second thought, maybe I don't..... I enjoy the ergometrics and sensuality of the camera too much to be disappointed.

Whaddu think of the L1? I know its not a real rangefinder but form factor wise and operationally, may be a winner. One good sign is the didn't try to cram too many megapixels on the 5/4 sensor. I'm still waiting for the digital M but Leica better hurry.
