Ok so I just picked up a MINT++ Epson RD-1s in the box and yada yada yada..
After lots of research and owning an M9 briefly, I sold the m9, and then started looking into the m8, MM, and RD-1 series of camera's...
I have always been a film shooter, I shoot primarily with an m4-p and black and white ilford films... delta 400, HP5 and XP2 when I am lazy and just want Cosco to do the developing and scanning (they wont do real B&W film anymore!)
Anyway, I decided on the Epson for a few reasons, the VF was much nicer, I shoot at night, and would like to use ISO800 and 1600 without strange colors and what not, I dont want to use IR filters... but I do prefer the look on the m8 and the better back screen. However, I also prefer the "film look" of the "grain" on the epson files in contrast to the "noise" of the m8 files.
Then when it came to the MM, I cant afford one. so that was out of the picture obviously! haha!
Anyway... on to my question!
I just took my 2gb card out of my RD-1s and stuck it in my Macbook Pro, and uploaded to Aperture 3.24 and the files all show up as color images, even though they were Black and white in the camera... I have no idea why this is or what is going on...
Can anyone help me with this?
I apologize in advance if this has already been addressed, I could not find it when searching or just digging through archives...
Thanks,
James

Well-known
If you shoot raw the files will be in colour regardless of what you see on the RD1's screen. If you use Epson Photo Raw then the raw files will appear as per the camera settings, but you will still have access to the colour images. If you shoot jpeg set to B&W then this is what you will get regardless of the s/w program you use to view or manipulate the files. Hope this makes sense.

Yep, it does. Should've known! Oh well. Thanks!

The best camera is one that still works!
The nicest black and white I got from my RD-1s was by using the Epson software and outputting the files as monochrome tifs into my prefered PP software.
