New RD-1x

Nikon should tell them to choose other characters besides D1x. Maybe if they had brought out a desert edition people would be more enthusiastic. 🙂

I know you don't have to own a camera to talk absolute BS about it, but you've broken all records with your marathon series of negative posts about this relaunch. I'm REALLY curious.

Did someone drop a printer on you when you were a kid or something?

mani, you appear to be my doppleganger, an absolute apologist for the RD-1. Perhaps in the greater scheme of things, we cancel each other out and balance returns to the force. 🙂
 
"Obsolete" is not pejorative in my vocabulary. I own many obsolete cameras. Even my old Olympus 1.3mp P&S still takes surprisingly good photos. But $3,000 for a 6mp camera? Come on.
 
Too much speculation on price...... a lot based on the initial link with a figure in Japanese Yen. IIRC, someone mentioned that Japanese prices generally have taxes and such rolled in.

You seem to have a value formula that, while perfectly rational for you, it seems you are frustrated that others don't agree with you. Value formulations are highly subjective and individual. Not sure where what I perceive as insecurity or (even, perhaps) frustration is coming from. I grant text on the Inter-webs lacks body language cues.
 
My two questions about the RD-1x:

Is the rangefinder properly aligned? (I had to take my brand new R-D1 to Steve for alignment, which is crazy for a new camera).

Will the glue hold the camera covering on longer than 1 year? (As you can see, I am a victim of sticky finger syndrome).

I know there are numerous rational technical arguments why the RD-1x is a camera you should not buy. I will offer one affirmative argument. The R-D1 is a camera you can come to truly love, instead of having a one year photo affair that sours when you lay eyes on the newest DSLR. Yes, the R-D1 can be annoying at times, and seem a bit old, even antiquated, but there is a reason some marriages last decades. Unfortunately, love is not an easily quantifiable quality.

In addition to my R-D1, I also own a mid-level DSLR. The technical sophistication of the camera blows the R-D1 away, but when I walk out the door of my house, I always reach for the R-D1 unless I have a specific technical reason to take the DSLR. I simply enjoy using the R-D1 more than the "superior" DSLR.
