Anyway ... recycling's good ... it will save the planet!
Buying things that last longer is a good way too (e.g. Nikon S3, Leica M4)!!

The best camera is one that still works!
What ... all these threads and posts and emotional energy expended for zilch!

Maybe someone at Epson has read all the Internet stuff and told the Board of Directors that the jig is up and maybe they couldn't actually sell a several years old 6 mp camera for $3,000?

Or maybe they mistook you for someone who was genuinely interested instead of a troll, and thought we didn't want this excellent camera to be re-released...

Hey, mani, that was supposed to be funny!
The reality, if it is true they will pull it, is probably a very dull result of the tanking economy. There will be a lot of victims of the current mess, I suspect.

I don't buy it. They were promising an April delivery and announced in early March? Production must've been complete or at least well underway. And from where I'm standing, as many people reacted positively as did negatively. I felt they were approaching this all wrong, but I never doubted they'd sell most of the small production run.
I guess we'll know soon enough.

Sorry to repeat. The D100 sensor (Sony ICX413AQ) is not the same as that of the D70 & D70s (Sony ICX453AK). The chip of the R-D1, R-D1s and, probably, R-D1x is that of the D100, not the D70. Suffice it to use both Epsons and D70 to see the difference. The D70 is sharper with more moire problems. Pretty good little DSLR by the way. I still use it for my job.
Don't muddy high-flying conjecture and bias with facts. Facts have no place in theorizing why something is just dumb because it's not the way you want it.

... likes film again.
I dropped by my local Yodobashi Camera store in Yokohama the other day, and noticed that the new R-D1s they used to have on display (since I can remember) is no longer there. Just now I checked Yodobashi Camera's website, and not only do they have no R-D1s stock, they've also completely removed the R-D1s product page.
I was at my local Yodobashi store yesterday and they have reduced the price of the last Epson R-D1s that they have on display from 249.000Yen to 209.000Yen (plus offering the 10% discount via their point system). Keen to see how long they keep that offer. They also used to have a Leica 50mm Summicron-M (silver) new in the box for 143.000Yen (including 15% discount) and finally lowered the price to 125.000 Yen ... When I decided to buy it it was sold ... :bang:

209,800 yen is the price Yodobashi used have on their website for the R-D1s before they deleted the page. Last September, I showed a printout of that page to the staff at the Yodobashi store in Yokohama and got them to reduce their shop price from 249,000 to match it (including points). The camera was for someone else though :bang:

I have been using the RD-1s for more than a year... I love it!
I can be perfect involved with my M-mount lenses and my digital rangefinder camera, the colors and performs that it gives are good for me, is the perfect camera for me.
If I have to take the decision to buy a new camera because my RD-1s is out or unrepairable, I'm sure that I will buy right now a RD-1x with a 6 MP sensor, the crop factor, etc... Who needs more technology? we are talking about rangefinder photography. For all the people that complain about all the old digital school inside of the RD-1x, they should try another option like the Leica M8.2 (don't feels like a classic camera) or maybe more tech in the Panasonic G1 (a SLR camera).
For me the R-D1 in all the following models still being the father of the completely manual digital rangefinder cameras.
Thanks EPSON to stay alive the RD-1, long life for the KiNG!!!

girls, just face it:
- the R-D1 has its followers (customers).
- 6 MPix are enough (for many applications)
- money is just money
so what? no one urges you to buy it.
edit: my number one camera is ..... (ta-daa) an R-D1.
