New Rff Software - Help Us Test RangeFinderForum.net

Looks good, print's kinda small, I miss the listing on the side to go directly
to what site you want to go on and the page with new threads. I know it's a work
in progress you'll get there. One thing you could add is a easier way to upload jpeg
pictures, like on other sites

Tonight, I tried to reach the site again, and here's the message I received:
Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

We can’t connect to the server at rangefinderforum.net.

Any news on updating RFF?

The forum software is getting increasingly creaky, and is close to 15 years old (that's positively geriatric in computer years - I'm surprised it still works!). There's been no support, including security and bug fixes, for this version of the software for many years now. Apart from reliability and up-to-date security, modern forum software supports responsive design, so RFF would be readable on phones!

If it's a matter of cost, I'm sure many RFF members would happily chip in - I would!

+1

Just this Monday I was locked out for virtually the whole day, getting an error message that said the website was down.

Yes
other sites have moved to 2.480 x 2.480 and > 1 Mb or even higher
And simpler posting mechanisms: drop and go!
That gives a lot more appreciation of each others input..

ps let's put a figure to the willingness-to-pay statement: yes $ up to 10/year is fine for me. What the Flickrs wants is outrageous.

The update ran into unforseen problems, dead in the water.

The reason we have stayed with the old software is the classifieds.

We have looked long and wide to find something as good, with not even a remote miss.

Yes, we could quickly move to modern software, at the cost of the classified display being as poor as every other photo forum I have seen.

no more classified displays on the home page, no more classified pics even on the main classified page.

While I'm not a longtime member, my two cents: move to modern software. I've had no trouble utilizing the classifieds sections of sites like Mu-43.com, and as for this site, it kicks me out/logs me off all the time, the visual display is dismal, and I really don't enjoy navigating around.

if classifieds was the "show stopper" in last attempt, it made me wonder why because classifieds have finite life span and after a while will be cleaned away, right?

why not stop taking new classifieds for few weeks before transition to new software?

surely modern forum softwares can provide similar or better classifieds experience than current?

yep, that is what I thought too,

Show me other forums with classifieds as good or better than ours.

They must be out there, but I have not found them.

yep sent pm., unfortunately that forum is not in English. perhaps others can point out also if they know forums with good classifieds.
