New RFF Under Construction - take a look

I can't see how to add lens details to my gallery photos where it says "lens detail not set". Nor can I see how to add lens details at the time of image upload to the new gallery. Help!

Great, Lynn! At least you can enter your gallery and upload something new. I am still not allowed to do so - I have no problem logging into the new RFF site, but I do have problem logging into Gallery. It goes well as suggested till the moment when I get the stupid message to hurry up because there is something in my mail. Despite my mail address being recognized, that "something" never arrives. And no answer to the message I've sent for help...

You need to add the lenses to your collection before you can assign them to a photo. If you click on your avatar/profile pic (or space where one would be) in the top right, you get to your personal home page. On the left of that is a section which says "Manage Albums and Lenses", and if you click on the blue arrow next to it, there's an "Edit Lens List" hidden under that. Once you select a few lenses and hit "Back to Dashboard" at the bottom, the lenses you selected will be available when you edit the images in your gallery.

It's a bit of a weird setup but I guess it's so that you can search for a specific lens without formatting differences separating the lenses in the database - i.e. if I called a lens a "50mm Sonnar" and you preferred "5cm Sonnar", the database would consider them totally different lenses. The list definitely needs some tidying up and some missing lenses adding, though. (MP Guy, if you need some help with that, I'm happy to volunteer - that's exactly the sort of nerdy activity I love.)

Any thoughts or updates on the member specific Feedback pages? I relied on those feedback scores + testimonials for buying and selling both here and on other sites and it took years and years to gather that positive feedback. Hoping that is still available somewhere as it will be one of my most missed features if it's gone. Please and thank you! The site is coming along great

MP Guy I'm still confused by the LATEST ACTIVITY tab, and why it is a default when using notifications.

When I click on a notification (in this case, for this very thread), it should take me to the latest post, should it not?

Instead, it takes me to a post from July 31, not the post from four hours ago that generated the notification.

I have to perform the following steps to get to the correct recent post.

• Click on POSTS

• Type "15" into the page number entry at the top right of the thread, and hit enter.

• Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Only then does the thread appear in chrono order top to bottom, showing the latest post. This was the chrono order used on the previous version of the site software.

Why are all these extra steps necessary, when it should take me directly to the latest post from the notification?

EDIT: after entering this post, it changed over to the LATEST ACTIVITY tab again.

Thanks!

I was gone a week for a trip home, and as I browse the site now there have been numerous improvements, some I have probably not even found yet. But that darned "Invalid Page URL" is still cropping up. Otherwise it's looking good, Stephen.

BTW, what does it take to get my avatar to display again? Do I need to slip some money under the table?

the functionality of the old VB3 and this new VB5 has drastically changed. Its going to take some digging to get more details on notifications etc ...

Avatars should be there. I have not loaded any and many show up from the old site,

Well, the only way I could get an avatar to show was to upload a new one. Would have reloaded my old one but not sure where it is in my files, and it might have been time to change it anyways. At least it is much easier to do so with the new forum software.

Most times that I try to log into the new site, the login fails. I had to login eight or nine times before I could write this post. Even when login succeeds, it usually logs out again if I navigate to a different page. It seems that the only way I can stay logged in is to click "remember me" at login.

I agree. Just had a time logging in but the only way it worked was “remember me”. Is this the trick to successful login?

Yeah, that's the way the old site worked, so it's just a continuance of how to do things here. Some things never change.

That's true, to some extent - but there are marked differences on the new site.

The old site would permit login without "remember me" and the login would persist indefinitely - IF there was keyboard activity. With NO keyboard activity, the login would last probably five minutes or so, then it would drop out. Fair enough.

The new site will occasionally permit login without "remember me" clicked in, but usually login is totally unsuccessful. Even when it is successful, the login drops out when navigating between threads and/or pages. Login with "remember me" seems to be the only way to get a successful login, on the new site.

As it stands, the login without "remember me" selected seems to be rather pointless. Since login appears to work (properly) only when "remember me" is selected, why not make "remember me" the only option?

Not trying to be negative, with these comments. Just trying to help in getting the site to work properly.

I am still trying to figure out how to find some of my threads at RFF. In the "old RFF", I would click on my name, and pick "started by raid". What can I do now to find older threads by me?

When posting photos to the Gallery, the "views" are zero to start when uploading a photo...but when you go back and edit your photo with the info, each entry to each separate box records a "view" and gives inaccurate "view" stats. So if you go back and include iso, ss, aperture, and try to edit info field, that will register 3 or 4 "views" plus a "view" for each time the info field is edited and saved.

Go to your profile
you will find your threads and your posts there
