Thornwood, N.Y. - The C Sonnar T* 1.5/50 ZM lens is the modern technological reincarnation of the classical Sonnar 1.5/50, the fastest standard lens of its time, for the Contax II rangefinder camera. The current C Sonnar T* 1.5/50 ZM is designed for the Zeiss Ikon rangefinder camera or for use with other rangefinder cameras taking the M bayonet mount.

It is fast, very resistant to flaring and unusually compact – therefore the “C” in the lens name. With its well controlled distortion, the lens produces a very accurate representation of objects. It can take the same filters which fit the ZM wide angle lenses with 21mm, 25mm and 28mm focal lengths. This is a very versatile lens for photojournalistic work in general and for available light photography in particular.

The Zeiss C Sonnar T* 1.5/50 ZM Lens will be available beginning August 2006 in a choice of chrome or black finish at a list price of $1,063.00.

Darn, if they hadn't make the dumb move of becoming the only vendors, I could see to purchase this one from Cameraquest. I've always dreamed of a fast 50mm lens in silver.

But then, at the price it's going, I can also buy a used Summilux 50. Older version, though... :(

Who will be handling it? Should I get the chrome one for my chrome body or a black one for my black body? Dilema....:bang:

I'd really be interested in seeing how much better this lens is compared to the 50/1.5 Zeiss Sonnar (Opton or CZJ).

i too am very anxious about this lens, maybe curious would be a better word.
if it looks different enough, like a true sonnar, i'm gonna have to sell something to get one.

will it be the zm 50/2?
or the cv 28 and 50, the fast pair?

stay tuned...

Mmm, now that's just yummy looking. I've just gotten word I start training for a new job (OTR truck driver) in October. Perhaps one in black for the CL would be an interesting Christmas present to myself?

Looking forward to this lens as I've seen good results with the J-3.
... A good birthday or christmas gift for me. Black or Chrome? :D
