[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

I love using the Rigid Summicron. It is a high resolution lens with “not so low contrast”.

Yeah, in comparison to the newer 50 Summicrons, the Rigid and DR versions ARE lower contrast, specially wide open, BUT no really "so low" as some think. I love my Dual Range Summicron - I think it's perfectly balanced in contrast.

November 17, 2019 - Sent email to Kevin asking to be put on the list to purchase the lens.
December 8, 2019 - Kevin sent the order form. I filled it out and returned it promptly.
December 9, 2019 through August 17, 2020 - Check email very often.
August 17, 2020 - Kevin sends email that black paint lenses are coming, am I still wanting to buy? I respond immediately, "Yes!". Kevin sends payment information and confirms the custom engraving. I sent payment and confirmed, "TRAVELER" for engraving.
Today's a good day.
August 17, 2020 - Now the wait truly begins. 🙂

Been keeping up with this thread for quite a while and am happy to report that I will hopefully be receiving my chrome lens soon. After reaching out to Kevin in November, I filled out the Google doc on December 8th and lo and behold the entire world changes, and then the lenses begin trickling out.

Very excited to test my lens out on my digital Ms and my M5 - will share pictures as soon as I receive the lens. Thanks to everyone for the technical info and the wonderful pictures that helped me pull the (final) trigger on the lens.

Congrats! Did you order black or chrome?

Same here, my black beauty should be coming soon...

Just received my silver chrome copy in the mail today! I don’t have a digital M, so it’ll be a bit before I can share some photos taken with the lens, so thought I’d share some photos of the lens.

I did purchase a V2LC from Wen at SH Cameras and not from Kevin/this thread since I didn’t actually find out about this until a couple months ago, clearly much too late to partake in the first batch group buy. Which of course also means the lens cost me a fair amount more than the price offered to those who were able to get in on V1LC. Regardless, it’s clearly a beautifully made lens and feels of absolute quality. I haven’t ever handled the original Leica 8 element 35mm summicron so I can’t compare directly, but it gives off a similar sense of heft and quality as my 50mm Dual Range summicron. I can’t wait to take it out and see the results it produces! Hope those of you who are still waiting for your V1LC will be receiving them soon, and have no doubts that you’ll feel it was entirely worth the wait once you get to finally hold it in your hands.

And now for the photos:

Looks like they did away with the metal tube case and replaced it with a leather(ette) case padded with foam.

Exquisite in the hands. Feels wonderfully dense and solid. Super smooth focus turn and solid “thunk” when turning the aperture ring and clicking into infinity lock.

Rear cap is metal. Looks like mine has a typo (oops). Aka super rare collectors edition sure to fetch a pretty penny lol

Came with a silver soft release courtesy of Wen at SH Cameras (thanks Wen!). Front lens cap is very hefty as well, but I find mine doesn’t fit very snug so I would be worried it would slip off eventually. Will probably replace it with a different cap for use while out.

Looks great on my M3 as well, even though I would need an external finder for proper framing
