[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

I guess I was lucky;
I got mine about 3 weeks after making payment.
Actually the time for customs clearance is one week since it arrived in my country.

I ordered on 9 Dec '19
Payment sent on 18 Aug '20

Lens on my hands on 11 Sept '20

if you did not have email confirmation back to Dec/2019 then I think you will have to wait for later batch.

now waiting for Kevin to contact me again when my lens is available to be shipped.

Just got feedback from Kevin that my lens is ready to be shipped, exactly 2 weeks after making payment.
Serial number: 500124 and my 3 kids name are engraved.
So excited!

I saw your lens in the photo next to my lens that Kevin shared with me. That’s why I say it’s strange - your lens is 434/500 and mine is 500122 - completely different numbering system...

Well, due to the different serial number format, you have a very unique version of a limited series of products. Probably no two of these lenses are the same - but that difference makes yours one of kind beyond the custom engraving.

I look forward to seeing pictures made with your distinct lens.

Edit: I see kiemchascu is getting 500124 and weihsuan is getting 500121. So, definitely the way the serial number is engraved is different now.

Thank you for your support. But the lens is still in the early stage. It might still need a few more months to develop. They only sent me the lens core. No lens barrel yet.

Of course, just want to be first in line. 🙂

I heard from Kevin and mine is shipping in a day or two. It's 494/500.

I have received the Elcan 50 2 replica prototype. I sent my original Elcan 50 2 to them to let them scan the lens to compare the data they have. And to make the replica closer to the original.

I did some tests last week, but I don't have the time to organize them yet. I will probably start a new thread to show the result.

Hello Kevin,
Count me in too, but I wonder why this replica choice and not the Noctilux? Was there a change in plans for some reasons? Is the ELCAN "exceptionally sharp"? Is this feature plus rarity the main factors for choosing it?

Kevin...please count me in on the Elcan 50mm f2 replica too...especially if you started a list. Heck I'll even take just the barrel and core if that's ready 🙂. Thanks very much!

Many people will soon also ask to be "on the list", Dave.
It will drive the cost up. Rare lenses can lead to high prices, even when it is a replica and not a Leica.

What if death is followed by an afterlife in a Leica Heaven in which there exist unlimited FREE exotic Leica cameras and lenses .....

I despise devotion to superstition; an anachronism that seems to persists in too many cultures and often an impediment to embracing new ideas.

But there's something disquieting about the subliminal message sent with all these 4-numbered samples.

Kevin has a reference Elcan, and it’s a much simpler optical design. Just my guess anyway as to why it was chosen. 🙂

I know this will be long development but based on the 8 element I’m sure it will be a success. Looking forward to it!

!

Leica issuing a replica themselves might have influenced their decision too. But the Elcan is purportedly a high-resolution lens despite its simplicity or so I have read.
