[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

I heard from Kevin and mine is shipping in a day or two. It's 494/500.

This is a great serial number. “494” loosely translates to"not fearing death".

Portrait of the lens as per my earlier post. The other two attached pix were shot on 28 Aug with my Replicron mounted on a Nikon Z6 with the lens locked on infinity at f/11 using auto ISO. The next morning it clouded up. We have not seen the sun since.

I like that replicron lens!
Sorry first typo'ed it as replicon, thinking of a conman in the back of my head 🙂

I guess it's like I said awhile ago..
I would be surprised if they ever complete the initial 500 in any reasonable amount of time..if ever..

On the contrary, I think the new range of 500xxx serial numbers that have appeared recently alongside the xxx/500 serial numbers from the initial 500 V1 batch, which are are already approaching 500 (e.g. 494/500 above), tells us that LLL has pretty much completed the supposed initial batch of 500 V1 lenses. Does that mean they've completed the initial round of domestic, RFF, and other orders? Nope. They probably got considerably more than 500 orders. So... new serial number range.

As I understand it..
This was sold and advertised as a limited edition of 500 flint pieces to be produced for people who ordered early in Dec 2019..done deal.
Thats what we were told.

Complain all you like, but it is what it is Emile. We can speculate all we want but we don't know what's actually going on. I doubt Kevin knows either.

It is for such issues why CV asks for higher prices. Service is important. Which of Emile’s points is not a valid point?

What's the problem?

I mean you signed on for an unsure bet and you get a lens that costs upwards of 2000, correction, 3-4000 dollars for around 500 - you even get the choice of color and engraving.

Yes it took a little while, but so what? Have you seen what goes on at Kickstarter and GoFundme? People pay more and sometimes walk away with NOTHING after years of delays. By that I mean, they're out of their money and they get sweet *beep* all... I have at least two friends who've been had like this.

I really fail to see the problem here, especially seeing all the tests and tests pictures, the lens completely delivers on the quality side. Made from hefty brass too - in 2020 no less. You're NOT getting that from a Leica lens - especially not from a Leica lens in 2020.

PS: I should add that I worked in product development, especially (digital) cameras and TVs for a decade. A product such as a lens with this many moving parts - it's nothing short of a miracle that it was delivered to us on budget and just a little bit over time. More often than not we (a multinational company with 100,000s of employees) had to make cutbacks to features or cancel products out-right.
