[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Thanks for all the information Kevin. I imagine quite a few people are eager to get their hands on one. When can we expect to place our orders?

Looking forward to seeing more B&W film photos from Erik and yourself!

Thank you very much for your support! And I am sorry for the late response! I was kind of busy in the past week. Regarding your question about purchasing the lens, the maker said it will be available in October. I will definitely update the confirmed release date in here.

Are they going to make hoods, too?

Good question! I talked with the maker a few days ago, and I mentioned if the black paint on the lens is too thick, it may affect the usage of the original IROOA hood. Then he told me he is considering making the hood too. Same built quality as the original one but at a very affordable price.

The maker now is experimenting different kinds of coating on the 8-element replica. He is having fun now.

The lens on the left has no coating. The middle one has multiple coating. The right one is the single coating version which follows the original formula.

He also provides me the comparison test photos to see how the coating makes the image result differently.

Just want to chime in to say how cool it has been to see this lens take shape over the course of this thread -- especially the member feedback being so valued, and incorporated in each prototype. Astounding stuff.

I'll happily purchase v1 when it becomes available. Do keep us posted!

I have the Summicron V1 with single coating, so getting the multiple costing version would make more sense to get in my case.

Thank you so much for your interest and support! For sure I will keep updating the information here.

Best,
