[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Are you focusing by RF or live view?

Thanks,

Shawn

Thank you, Shawn. It is a good question. All the photos I've taken were using the rangefinder to focus, no live view involve. So I am confident to say that at least mine replica lens can focus 100% accurately. I never noticed any focus issue with this replica.

It is not easy to craft such a lens, Kevin. I am glad to see the makers not avoid such obstacles.

Indeed. It's been two years since the maker started this project. There must be lots of challenges they need to overcome. Aside from the anti-flare performance, to be honest, I can barely tell the difference between the original and replica. Their rendering, sharpness, and bokeh look almost identical.

After we discussed the anti-flare performance on the Replica lens, the maker let his colleagues send him the following two pictures to show the result after they improved it.

It seems - because the difference in dept of field - that these two shots are made with different f-stops. I think a comparison like this is only useful when both shots are made with the same f-stop.

Hi Kevin,

This is perfect timing -- I was just seeking a v1 Summicron & was considering a Summaron due to the relative 'affordability'...

Please let me know once this lens becomes available for order; I'd love one in black.

Not to distract the audience here, but the Summaron is a gem. Buy it if you can.

Hi Kevin.... I have followed this thread quietly for a while now. The lens look amazing to me. Kindly count me for a black or silver once it is available for order. Much appreciated.

Kevin, I have been following this thread and project since your first post about it. From what I have seen, the lens maker is doing a superb job creating the replica.
I am very interested to know when the lens will become available, and would love to get a copy.
Thank you for all your work with comparison photos.

Take it as you will, but I’m really not a fan of the pink-purple mounting button. It looks like someone misplaced the sequins from a prom dress...

Personally I’d much prefer plain red. Simple, classy and timeless. A lens like this doesn’t need ‘bling’.
