The maker's studio locates in Beijing. The parts of the lens manufacturing in the professional optical bases of various provinces in China. Each region has its own strengths for making different optical parts.

Regarding the engraving information, the maker told me that as long as the information is not related to any politic issues in the world, they can engrave for the customers. They are just making lenses. They really don't want to get involved in any unpredictable issues. And I think there will be more projects to come. I wish you could understand their difficulty.

Kevin, I'm a bit confused. According to article 35 of the Chinese Constitution, "citizens of the People's Republic of China enjoy freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly, of association, of procession, and of demonstration."

Are you and "the maker" implying it isn't so?

Putting on my moderator hat here... "the maker" stated "they are just making lenses" and "they don't really want to get involved in any unpredictable issues". Let's just leave it at that, ok. RFF is not the place to discuss politics.

Since the whole project is about their enthusiasm and respect for Leica, let’s just leave the politics issue out of here. Please put yourself in their shoes. It’s not about freedom of speech. They have the right to stay away from the political arguments. Again, they don’t want to get involved in any unpredictable issues. I hope you can understand and respect the decision of the maker.

There are few people alive anymore who can really tell the difference between two fast lenses from prints or negatives.

It is only a matter of physics. f/2 is f/2 is f/2. Light is light. Film is film. No think. Just shoot.

*Here I summarised some important information for the first batch 8-element replica.

The first batch 8-element Replica:
Use flint lead-glass like the original one (Note: Supply will be limit since flint glass is hard to find now even in China)
Two types of single coating like the original one
The lens body is crafted in brass
Each lens will include brass made front and rear lens caps. The lens will also be stored in an aluminum alloy container (All metal, no plastic will be used in this project.)
Three paint options: Black Paint / Chrome / Brass
Free engraving service for each lens（Numbers/Alphabet, 8/9 spaces)
Retail price will be $499 + shipping (There will be an extra cost if you have a special request that require extra labor cost. Please understand.)
