[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Yes f8+THERE is what I posted in post 815, so two of us so far that we know know of. Mine will be black SC. What about yours Froyd?

Cheers

Chrome because it's well known (see Puts) that chrome lenses are sharper, have better OOF rendering than their black counterparts, and give the user about a 2 stop advantage in image stabilization. As for brass lenses...I could not possibly comment publicly. 😉

The chrome ones really do look fantastic......great there will be one black and one chrome, and if anyone i,s er, brave, a brass...

Definitely interested in maybe getting in on the second round. Wondering if it's possible to leave the custom lettering field blank and have all of the other text left black on a black lens. Gotta avoid those window reflections ya know 🙂

Not gonna be the same. No flint glass left.

my order is black paint with names of my 3 kids imprinted.
that's gonna be super cool.
chrome: yes it's nice but i already have chrome 35/2.8; in addition my 35/2 v4 is black chrome. black paint for me is an obvious choice.

First of all, thank you so much for all the forum members here who support this project. And thank you for your patient. The maker is trying his best to complete the orders that been placed before us. They are the very first group of people who support the project. In the process, his technical team is also continuously accumulating manufacturing experience.

As more and more people are sending messages to me expressing their interest in buying the replica 8-element after we stopped receiving orders, I have asked the maker about his plan on future batches. Like I said before, the flint lead glass becomes very hard to find in China nowadays as the new Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China been released in 2015. The law restricted the manufacturing of the lead glass. But some facilities are still manufacturing flint lead glass for particular purposes. The maker is able to source this glass from those facilities, but the cost will be higher. So I got confirmation that the future batches will have a higher price due to this reason.

In fact, regardless of the increase in manufacturing costs, the maker initially planned to sell the lens at the lowest possible price to thank the first group of the customers who are willing to support them. And then, return to the regular price after the first batch is sold.

Kevin

I recall reading somewhere in this thread that there was flint glass left for future rounds, but it would be more expensive.

Mr. Zhou used all his flint lead glass from old stock to produce about 500 copies of lens core for the first batch replica lens. The later batch may use eco-friendly glass instead. And if the maker is able to source the flint lead glass from the special facility, he can produce more lenses with special glass in limit number. The cost will be higher for sure.

I have many Leica lenses in chrome and many non-Leica lenses in black. I do not yet own any lens in brass finish. The time has come to change this fact! I count on seeing few lenses made in brass finish, and even fewer lenses that were made with Flint glass.
