[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

If the brass version is delayed, would you get a black one or a chrome one, and why?

I just switched from bronze to black. Ihave an original Summicron in chrome. Black lens looks good on a balck camera too.

I would think in this situation that getting what you really want is most important. If there is a delay for the one you want, then the effect would depend on your tolerance for the amount of delay, whether moderate or huge!

Noooo, Raid, why did you drop out of the bronze club? I'll be in it by myself. 😕

The lens maker most likely still needs to figure out how to best coat the brass. I prefer to get a lens in another finish and start using that lens.

I can answer my own question as I’ve emailed with Kevin and this might help others. Raid is in the very first batch of the first group. The brass finish may be ready for later batches (still in the first flint glass group). Either way decisions on finish can be made at the point of production confirmation so there’s not a need to change an order until that point.

Thank you for the explanation 🙂! I'm in the brass club, though probably a late batch. I have a lot of patience and am willing to wait, but I suppose I'd switch to chrome if I couldn't get brass. I like my shiny objects 😀.

Thanks. This is very useful information. I was not aware that Flint Glass will still be used in the postponed brass finish lenses. I may have not been 100% convinced to get the brass version, so I took the opportunity to get a black one.

I'm in no rush. I'll wait to get my brass lens. Instead of wishing I got it later on while looking at my boring black or chrome lens.

🙂

I am in no rush either, and getting the (late) opportunity to switch away from brass was something that I already had on my mind for a while, but I thought that it was too late to make a switch. Now, I wish that I had chosen the chrome finish lens! Oh well. They all are wonderful lenses.

I chose black, with the custom imprint "Traveler". Ironic, since I cannot travel anywhere now with all of the "Stay At Home" orders. But, I am waiting patiently for the lens. Maybe we'll all be able to get out and around by the time it arrives.

I'm in the first batch. It will be in classic silver chrome. Purchase and delivery will be made soon as I have been contacted, but I am very patient. Thank you Kevin. 🙂

I think it’s more there’s a chance brass may be available, I may still have to switch when it gets to my turn but no decision needs to be made until then. You can let someone else test the experimental finish, Raid 😛

Hi kevin, only just caught up on this post.
Are lenses from the first batch still available? I appreciate they’re still in production, but wondered if all orders had been taken.

I’ve email the address at the bottom of your signature, no reply yet, but hope I’ve got in just in time.

Hopefully a brass/bronze one will be available. Otherwise black paint will be fine. To be honest, they all look good!!

Hi all,
I have received my black paint copy 2 month ago.
And have done a little test for BW about original 8 elements(germany) vs replica 8 elements because I want to know how close. I think that many people same as me.

Let’s us make a fun game for guessing which one is replica.
( every pair is independence, and it was random sequence. You need consider of every pair, sample: 1B, 2A, 3A......)
I will post the answer tomorrow.

It isn’t a serious test because haven’t use a tripod, but i think it can for all you guys reference.
Camera: Leica M2 (only change lens) with same aperture and shutter speed setting for every pair shot.
Film: Ilford HP5Plus
Scan: Imacon scanner with same scan setting

PS: color negative film’s test will post after processed
