[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Hi! Has anyone received any updates about their lens order?

My lens was shipped a few days ago and the tracking indicates it has already cleared Japan customs and has arrived at DHL's Yokohama depot. Scheduled delivery is Tuesday next week, but I'm hoping it arrives a bit quicker than that.

Apparently there's a backlog is shipping due to the pandemic/shut down that is slowing everything down. Have faith.

There's also a manufacturing backlog. Not all domestic purchasers have received their lens yet, either. A small batch of maybe a dozen (?) lenses has been shipped out to international buyers (myself included) but that's because Kevin let us jump the queue a bit. Lucky us! Have patience everyone. It's going to take a few months longer than initially expected, but you will eventually get your lenses.

The nice thing here is that unlike Indiegogo or Kickstarter projects, Kevin is not holding on to our money and not delivering the lens. You only pay right before shipping.

My fear right now is missing the payment request email in the midst of the jumble of stuff coming through my inbox. I hope Kevin gives a heads up on rff when payment request are sent to North America buyers.

Thank you for mentioning this. There are many reasons that I didn't collect money first after I receive all the orders. The first reason is I know there are still many uncertainties with the final production schedule. And after the epidemic breakout, I realized that I made the best decision. Now I only send out a few lenses to see how things go and I want to get some feedback first. I am still holding some other lenses in the first group in hand and preparing to collect payment. They all have customized engraving. I am taking some risk here. But I really don't want people to pay and wait for a very long time to get their lenses.

I am sorry for being absent for a while on the forum. We are now back to work for a while now. I have my own job. Therefore I am very busy every day. There are many emails that I haven't replied to. I will try my best to get back to everyone in a timely manner. Thank you for understanding.

WOW. I didn't know my KE7A combo could worth that much. This is by far my best Leica investment. 😎

That price may be some wishful thinking 😉. It's good to hear you're back to work, and not one of the many who lost their jobs recently. Otherwise, you might have to consider selling your KE7A 😱!

This lens is going to be a lot of fun and worth the wait. Right now, I'm looking forward to some more reviews and sample shots as people start receiving theirs!

Just some little words to express my gratitude to Kevin and the maker on this project. Recieved my lens today (black paint version) and it is fabulous. built quality is very very high. I'm about to do a review of it on film that I will publish later on 35mmc website. It may take a month or so though as 35mmc waiting list for articles is quite long. One thing is already for sure, it was worth the wait ! It has nothing to do with other Chinese lenses I have (which already are of a high quality level). The thing that shocked me straight out of the box is the wieght of the lens. No doubt at all it is all made with brass. It is heavier than my classic nokton which is supposed to have more glass in it! Quite impressive. Stay tuned for more thoughts 🙂

I might still need to worry about keeping my job. So I am working really hard right now. Haha.

KE7A kit and my other Leica collections might be the last thing that I would consider to sell. They are my treasure.

I am very happy to hear that you've received your lens. And I am glad to know you have good feeling about it. I am looking forward to your further update and your review.

Best,
Kevin

I was away from RFF for a little while as work was taking all my attention. I missed the initial round of ordering. Its great to see those who took the early chance starting to get their lenses - be prepared for a lot of jealousy from those of us who missed out. 🙂

That's such a beautiful lens Jonmanjiro!

I have my order in for a black paint as well. I'm trying to be patient; but this makes waiting sooo much harder! "sigh..."

Hi all,
Have done a game for BW about original 8 elements(germany) vs replica 8 elements before around 1 month.

I have finished 3 rolls of color negative film in that time. I think we can have another little test.

Let’s us make a fun game for guessing which one is Original.
(every pair is independence, and it was random sequence. You need consider of every pair, sample: 1B, 2A, 3A......)
I will post the answer tomorrow.

It isn’t a serious test because haven’t use a tripod, but i think it can for all you guys reference.
Camera: Leica M6 (only change lens) with same aperture and shutter speed setting for every pair shot.
Film: Kodak 5203(50D), Kodak 5207(250D), Kodak 5219(500T)
Scan: Imacon scanner with same scan setting
