[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

Kevin just shared with me the photo of my lens - a beautiful black paint with the serial 500122 (to be shipped soon). Quite strange, as I saw all lenses posted here had xxx/500 or xxx/xxx, but mine has no “/“ sign. Maybe it differs by batch - I did not bother to ask Kevin as he is very busy...

Looking at it, 500 / 122 is a bit longer than 500122. Removing the / will create create three extra spaces between serials, custom text and LLL on the chapter ring. Less crowded.

Nice to see these iterative touches in design as the project proceeds.

And I can't wait for the thread some time in 2040 when future RFFers try to work out the minutiae of these changes 😀

It looks like these are all amber coated lenses (I believe some people have received purple coated lenses). This is fine by me...I'm attracted to the amber colour 🙂 I wonder if there is a noticeable optical difference between the two coatings?

I am lucky enough to have recently submitted payment to Kevin for a black paint V1LC. I'm wondering if I am looking at my future lens in the photograph he just posted!

Hoping those LLL hoods are close to being produced and available for sale. That silver one looks great.

At one stage I asked for a second lens, but I was too late. This is fine. We need the cash for a new replica lens one day.

Someone posted this guy's review earlier, but he compares the two coating types with this replica lens specifically. I thought it was interesting, if not rigorous, but it does make me glad to know that the later iteration are amber-coated and closer to the original it seems. I also personally prefer the color rendition from the amber on color film from these, again not that rigorous, shots.

Way way off topic, but, my lens which is on its way, is 434/500. Being curious what those numbers could mean, I Googled them. That's when I found out that the sequence actually stands for "Love, Joy, Hope." (4 letters, 3 letters, 4 letters). It's the way you should live your life!

If you have some time, you can see where this comes from in the YouTube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFL0H4_xW78&list=PL7TJSNRE7JA5kik7Z-NZhoHEZCZGHtdYu&index=2

It's a very strange video - but entertaining - if you are into strange videos. Just knowing that 434 does not mean "Die, You! Die!" is rather a bit of relief. 🙂
