[New test photos released] Leica Summicron 35/2 Eight Element copy made in China

As far as I know the info is pretty accurate.
But that said..
Maybe its best to do a poll on the exact lens #'s and their coatings.
And try to figure it out from there..if enough people respond..
I think purple was in the 1st 100 lenses.
Amber came in strong in the 400's.
Even spacing came in the 600's.
..

The serial number is randomly assigned, the 500/500 may have the earlier amber or purple coating, the 1/500 (? Hold by Mr. Zhou) may have the latest coating.

Perhaps its best to just enjoy our lenses..and not care or worry about all this coating stuff..
I havent shot much with this lens yet..but it seems impressive in performance and look.
I am looking forward to using this lens because when I went to more modern Leica lenses..the shadows were harder to sustain..
And this lens may prove to be a winner here..esp in night shots where the contrast can be an issue in B&W film.
Much thx to Kevin for coming thru here.
I think this lens may be a true gem.

That last line does sum up most copies of this lens... as most who have owned and used it... it is a true gem to be enjoyed.

This was taken at f/2.0. Not particularly sharp (or even in focus), but check out those bokeh balls. 🙂

I have just received my lens from Kevin which I paid in December 2020. Took 2 days reach me from Shanghai to Singapore.

Glad that all turned out well and grateful for all his efforts. I guess he will be contacting those who have paid in a matter of time.

While there has been some speculation on LLL's business model and character assassination in the last few pages, I believe we all in RFF want everything to go well. 🙂 Enjoy the lens now or in time to come for those who have yet to receive.

Shipping time from China via USA to Canada, 5 days. The lens weighs more than my 2.8 Summaron LTM. The focus throw is smooth and the aperture selector well damped. The Leitz 12504 hood works like a charm and the old style Leica metal lenscap fits snugly, much better than the LLL that came with the lens. I look forward to seeing the results. But it will be a day or so since it's overcast and snowing & i can't see the mountains.

Nothing quite like your beautiful, brassed M4

Thanks Saul. That was the original siren call....looking for a black paint lens to live on the M4. They're few and far between, especially in the affordable range. I'll take some photos with it tomorrow.

Interestingly Emile's chrome V2 lens is inscribed "made in China" while mine has the same in Chinese characters.

Is this lens going to be in regular production now, and if so which version and what do you expect the price to be like?

I noticed item 284195949907 on the bay selling for less than scalpers initially sold the ones first released here so maybe the price is going to be like for 7Artisan lenses...?

There are a number of lenses listed on Ebay from $1300-2300 USD. IMO we have no idea regarding the company since there was very little clear communication from either Kevin or the company in the last year and a half, either regarding their plans nor our particular lenses. Actually getting the lens seemed very much like winning a raffle at the county fair. So it's anybody's guess as to whether you'll see them priced cheaply like 7Artisans. But if you can sell them for over $1300, why would you sell them for $200? I just received mine yesterday afternoon, but i can say the build quality is very high, much better than the one 7Artisans lens i've seen which didn't focus accurately on a Leica M.
