New (un)happy owner RD1s-what's this picture defect?

The seller agreed to reimburse me. So hopefully it'll all end ok.
However I really want a working model of RD-1s. I got to really like the camera inspite of the troubles. It's a great design, the mode of operation suits me just fine. The ergonomics, the analogue dials...etc etc. What a shame Epson don't let out upgrades. A 12 mil sensor, bigger buffer...RD-1 goes very nicely hand in hand with my Leica MP. I got the pre-asph Summilux 35/1.4 just for it. From what I found out by now it is a way nicer camera than Leica M8.
BTW, just curious why the dead pixel correction feature cannot map out the whole faulty row?

nugat, check the classifieds here and keep your eye out. RD-1's change hands often. I got mine from a forum member--most people here know how to make sure a camera's working right.

I love the hell out of the R-D1. After a month, it's become my favorite camera. I long for a 10MP FF sensor, but that's about my only complaint.

sounds like you may have a fair dealer there, nugat. i hope it all works out for you.

i like mine enough to take it to moscow with me the following week - i need to travel very light so it will be just the R-D1, hex 35/2, 2 SD's, a couple of batts, & charger.

ive gone through 6 m8's, in order to attempt to get 2 working bodies -- no such luck yet, they keep having problems!

send this back!

Is this the one from Sydney that went on ebay a week or two ago (with 3 lens)
I was biding on it
sorry you had a problem with it and from the other side of the world

Dead pixels are really dead, and the correction forces the software to "invent" the information of this pixel by interpolating the informations of it's neighbours. But the stripe you have seems to be a different fault. The pixels are not "dead", they still deliver certain information, and the camera can not detect it as "dead".

Just to let everybody know that all ends well, we settled the dispute via paypal and the seller already advanced a refund.
