I quote:

"I carry all my cameras by the lense"
Henri Cartier Bresson

"No straps. It just gets in the way"
Larry Burrows

Grips.....................!!!???

Otherwise, welcome.Learn to load in the dark.It really helps.

what do you guys have against grips?

i even modified one of mine so it would work better on the zi.
remember, when i'm out shooting i use a wrist strap and the grip so the camera is always in my hand.
no neck strap normally for me.

Do you guys know why Leica put the tirpod socket on the side in the first place?

I mean these are great german engineers we're talkin about. I'm sure there was a good reason...

who cares, who uses a tripod?
I use a monopod or tripod for serious landscape and architectural photos. Why spend money for a good high resolution lens if one never takes full advantage of it by using a camera support?

Yeah, I'd guess it's to keep the lens focusing tab easy to operate while the rig is on the tripod! And the grip raises the camera up enough to keep the tab from fouling on the 'pod.
