I will bet the first version will be much coveted drawing wise than the type II, whether it matters or not.

Someone check Tom A's camera bag. If there is a new one, he has it.
Off to flickr to check out his photostream.

Interesting, but since Cosina makes their own glass in house that doesn't make sense.

Does Cosina make their own glass or do they buy it like almost everybody else? From what I read, only a few companies actually make optical glass (Schott, etc.). Most major camera/lens companies buy the raw glass from one of these outfits and do the grinding and polishing in-house.

They make it in house, but maybe not all of that. I'd assume they make all of it in house since they sell made to order glass to other manufactures. Tom A's talked about their in-house, small batch glass all the time.

If the new lens is smaller in size and focus down to .7m then I am dumping all leica 35mm lux

Rumor also on L-Camera site:
http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/customer-forum/158861-voigtländer-35mm-nokton-f-1-2-a.html
...AW: Voigtländer 35mm Nokton f/1.2 - discontinued
Cosina is btw in the middle of development of a new 35/1.2 lens. The Type II will be available early summer 2011 they say .. Wrote them an email to ask is there will be replacement and they told me i shouldnt bother with the old one too much and rather wait till they got the Type II ready Lets see if they manage to make it a tad bit smaller and make it a bit better wide open ..

Yeah, we can only hope they 'improve' it so it loses all its wonderful character.

Less viewfinder intrusion and distortion would be great.

Well, I'm hedging my bet and will stick with the old one for now. If they're able to bring out a new one, smaller in size and with the same signature: I will not complain

It can't be a coincidence that Tom A hasn't commented on this matter since it was announced.

So, does this mean that you have also seen the Leica M 9.2????

Alright, I'll let the cat out of the bag.
Everything on the internet is TRUE.
And if it isn't tue, at least it's very entertaining.
Works for me, thanks!

Conspiracy theories where there are none. Alright, I'll let the cat out of the bag.
Cosina is secretly trying to develop a new 35 f/1.1. (really it's 1.09777) they've got prototypes out - around 5 of them, but they're designing various hoods that don't obstruct the viewfinder anymore than current ones. I've seen the SC version - this will be HUGE in the japanese market. The MC version is expected to be a big seller with M8 and M9 and M9.2 (soon to be announced) owners.
Cosina is also developing a new 50 f/1.4 asph to compete with Leica's offering and it's supposed to be around the $799 price point. The prototypes I've seen are very similar looking in size and weight to the 50 summilux.
FYI, I've never signed an NDA so I can share what I know.
You really know how to light a fire, hence the moniker, eh?!
A 35/1.1 ? Wow! Sounds like it must be totally redesigned, and the results will look different from the old 35/1.2 . If it is more along the lines of the 50/1.1, that could hurt!

that level of close focus is impossible unless you want to change the laws of physics.
but laws are made to be broken, no?
interesting rumors about new 35. am also curious what will happen to prices of 35/1.2 "Classic"
