New videos of Winogrand on youtube

Verry interesting. The 2nd interview with Barbralee Diamonstein was interesting to watch for the meer fact that Garry was just a common joe with a camera & didn't really have an answer for the questions she asked. It was like she was digging for some startling revelations that never came. She also has interviews with Joel Meyerwitz & Elliott Erwitt I wan't to see. Thanks for this.

wow! Great find. There is a HArry Callahan interview!!!

Its really slow loading though....

If you read more about Winogrand, he is very uncomfortable answering questions about his photos. The guy just loves to take pictures and he always dodges or avoids answering questions... they also have a video with Joel Meyerowitz in there somewhere...

This guy is the legend. The camera in his hand seems so natural and everything flows in perfect rhythm. I like the way he winds the film.

From the same series here is Joel Meyerwitz who pays strong tribute/appreciation to "his mentor" Gary Winogrand. Thanks for sharing the Winogrand interviews. I had seen the first one I guess on PBS.

I find the contrast between the two films quite striking. When he is on the street, with a camera in hand, he is ebullient and in his element. The first film brings this out. In the second film, on stage, in an interview, he is a bit nervous and uncomfortable. He clearly doesn't like talking about his work to someone who is as clueless and patronizing as is the interviewer. He lived to work (i.e., photograph), and had no interest in self promotion.

His love of making photographs always makes me smile. Whether you like his work or not, you can't help but admire his intellectual honesty.

Having watched both of those clips there's two things I really like about Garry Winogrand. His photographs of course but also his reluctance to bang on about street photography when asked if it's what he does. He just takes pictures as he says repeatedly ... where he is at the time and what type of photographer he may or may not be ... doesn't need classifying or labeling!

Having not had much to do with the man or his work I enjoyed these two clips immensly and now understand why he is regarded as such a central figure of his generation.

Thanks for the links! :)
