Looks like the release date is set for Sept 10th. Any news on a preorder from CameraQuest?

I like the vintage 1930's styling almost as much as the pics.

Hmm... About a week ago, I posted that this was interesting, though I wasn't in the market. But GAS lies dormant, then erupts with a terrible virulence. I WANT THIS LENS!!!

It’s kind of like a MS Optics lens, but with a robust build and a proper aperture ring. I like the sample images, but I would like to see some daylight images, and some color.

I kinda wonder how this lens (being a almost-true Heliar design) gonna fare on the GFX...50mm Heliar/Tessar/Sonnar lenses for the 135 format generally can cover the larger sensor.

Some nasty blown highlights in the samples but like how "old school" the lens renders. Photography has gone full circle. It´s 1960 again.

Can anyone comment on the propensity of this lens design to focus shift?
This lens's optical design (6 elements of three cemented pairs; positive pairs front & rear with a negative pair at center) is similar to the CV Heliar 75mm f/1.8. Sean Reid in his test of this lens says that it shows "no signs of notable focus shift." His test of the CV Heliar 50mm f/2 *does* show some minor focus shift, however, and this one is a true/traditional Heliar 5 element pattern (2/1/2; positive pairs front & rear with a negative singleton at center). Can anyone comment on the propensity of this lens design to focus shift?

Okay, so who has placed a preorder yet, or is absolutely going to? (Though anyone who is “absolutely going to” has already done so, so “absolutely going to” really means almost certain, not quite.)
Just asking for a friend. A friend who asks drug addicts whether he should use drugs too.

I really think about it. I would like to have a Dallmeyer Super Six, but I can't afford it. This Cosina lens is something totally different, but can create images with a similar mood. The high speed of f/1.5 helps. The design of the lens' appearance shows that the makers are targeting buyers with similar thoughts.

The samples' quality looks similar to the Nikkor SC 50/1.4 wide open but without the special glow. The bokeh is even busier in a way

That's what it is all about, bokeh balls and deformation. Not just still recognizable smoothed objects in the background.
I don't see anything like that in a Nikkor SC 50/1.4. The bokeh of the rf Nikkor isn't very nice in my opinion (I know there are many versions of that lens). The original Sonnar is nice and rounded, but the Nikkor isn't.

I don’t either, at least compared to the Nikkor 50/1.4 I had, but maybe I have got that wrong. I was thinking more Summar, off the top of my head, but that’s probably wrong as well. My initial impression is that it doesn’t really look exactly like anything else. Maybe a little bit of this and a little bit of that. But, I’d really need to see many, many more sample images before concluding anything. Am strongly considering it, just don’t want to spend $850 on something that produces looks like something I already own, or something I once owned and got rid of. And I’m not seeing, so far, that it has much of anything in common with anything coming from TT artisans, etc.

The Summar has a beautiful bokeh, but is only f/2. However, you need a Summar in perfect condition to see anything anyway, let alone an interesting background.
Fast classic lenses with a beautiful bokeh are the old f/1.5 Dallmeyer and Angénieux lenses (amongst many others). These are however extremely expensive.
I have often wondered why no producer has jumped into this gap in the market, so I am very happy that Cosina is now doing so. If the lens is a success, there may be interesting and affordable other copies of Dallmeyer and Angénieux lenses (among many others) in the future. This is not a collector's market, but a user market. However, we must realize that many types of glass from the past can no longer be used.

What is the most important feature of this new lens that you are targeting, Erik? What makes it unique- one of a kind?

A relatively cheap new lens with a bokeh that maybe rivals the bokeh of the most wanted typical bokeh lenses like those from Angénieux, Kinoptik, Dallmeyer and Hugo Meyer. That is the intention of this new lens - in my opinion - also considered the external design.
"Cosina says the lens, which has a single coating, has been specifically designed to showcase classical reflections that are not found in modern lenses and dares to express various aberrations."

The design also exudes this thought: no ugly bayonet for a lens hood on the front, as well as the nice Dallmeyer-like brass waffle structure on the aperture and focus rings.

I like it!
