I hope I'm not castigated for posting this question on RFF, but I believe my reason is sound.
I'm interested in the new line of CV SL II lenses for Nikon DSLRs. I have a Nikon D40x and I've been using older manual focus lenses with it. I really much prefer a manual focus approach, rather than using the auto-everything approach that is being shoved down our throats lately. The new CV lenses will let me use the camera's meter, and still manually focus. I've ordered the new 58mm lens, which will be equivalent to a really nice 85mm portrait lens on the D40x.
But I'd also really like to have a wide-angle lens for most everything else I photograph. To get that from Cosina, they'd have to produce something in the 18 to 21mm range, so that the equivalent on the D40x would be 27 to 32mm. I know that many people here on RFF pay attention to what Cosina is up to and so I'm posting this thought here. Does anyone think that Cosina will come out with something wide in the SL II line of lenses?

I dont think they will, and frankly I hope they dont. I really dont think digital slr lenses are a good way to go and also cosina's SL line of lenses has always been very conservative, im surprised they bothered with these!

These are full frame lenses, not DX lenses. The only thing digital about them is a chip which communicates with the body. I would like to to see a reasonably fast wide lens in this range.

Just thought I would revive this thread - I am so going to be buying the 58mm SL II lens (at the very least) from Messr Gandy.
I just tried it out and, although I really wasn't that doubtful, the thing blew me away.
I honestly don't think one can go wrong with these; especially if you have a D700 or other Nikon full frame digital.

As mentioned above the 20/3.5 SL II is a FF lens that on a 40X gives you a very nice 30mm FOV. It's chipped just like the 58 so it will work well on your 40X. I'm in the hunt for either a 40x or a 60 so I can use it with mine, I have both and they are great on my FT3.

I don't think it is easy or maybe even possible at a reasonable price to get a 20mm lens with such a high resolution and lack of distorsion at least in the center that would produce on a small sensor the same quality that a good 28mm lens does in a FF or film, have a decent speed (maybe f2.8) and still cover a 24x36mm sensor for future use of a FF. I doubth Voightlander or anybody else will ever produce one. If you like a wide angle manual focus lens on a digital from Nikon I guess you will have to wait for a cheapish FF (or for the introduction of some D700 mark II, or whatever they will call it, so that the prices of second hand D700's will drop) or go for third part lenses especially designed for small sensors (but they are usually autofocus, you have to use them in MF if you want to).

Those are BEAUTIFUL! And now I'm thinking that the 20/3.5 would not only be splendid on my FE, but also a perfect 40/3.5 on one on the new micro 4/3 bodies!

I'm glad that someone else has already answered to your question, as for me, I guess that it will be very difficult to see another CV lens between 20 and 40 mm, seen the high number of ZF lenses in the middle (21 - 25 - 28 - 35...) unless they don't want to come out with a weird 30-31mm
