My GA645Wi was acting fine. While I was putting in a new roll, it started making some strange whirring (or rather loud groaning sound) while doing the autofocus motion. This is different from the 'quite audible' sound the camera normally makes. I also have a GA645i and that one has the normal sound in comparison. Not sure what caused this problem but its irritating. Any suggestion on anything I can look for or try myself to fix it before I consider sending it in for repair?

I can try replacing the battery, but the LCD screen looks fully powered.

I have a mistrust of most cameras that require batteries to function.
Sorry for your issue.

Too much tension on the film? Maybe the gears are strained?

Next time you power it up, you´ll hear a soothing female voice say:
"Self destruct sequence will commence in T minus 10 seconds..."
Sorry - couldn´t help myself. Actually it sounds like too much tension or a spool that is not properly mounted. Hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks again for your suggestion. The sound is coming from the auto focusing motor of the camera, not the motor that drives the winding mechanism.

oooh. thats a good one! I just checked that front rim near the recess and its not loose.
I opened the back and it seems to be almost a faint grinding sound when the helicoid thread inside rotates for moving the lens backward and forward. Maybe it needs a lube job?
