My GA645Wi was acting fine. While I was putting in a new roll, it started making some strange whirring (or rather loud groaning sound) while doing the autofocus motion. This is different from the 'quite audible' sound the camera normally makes. I also have a GA645i and that one has the normal sound in comparison. Not sure what caused this problem but its irritating. Any suggestion on anything I can look for or try myself to fix it before I consider sending it in for repair?

I have a mistrust of most cameras that require batteries to function.
Sorry for your issue.

Next time you power it up, you´ll hear a soothing female voice say:
"Self destruct sequence will commence in T minus 10 seconds..."

Sorry - couldn´t help myself. Actually it sounds like too much tension or a spool that is not properly mounted. Hope you get it sorted out.

ring around the lens is loose? thing happened to my GA645i and noise was terrible, a little bit of glue solved the problem.

oooh. thats a good one! I just checked that front rim near the recess and its not loose.
I opened the back and it seems to be almost a faint grinding sound when the helicoid thread inside rotates for moving the lens backward and forward. Maybe it needs a lube job?
