New Wide Angle 6x7 Rangefinder

I just looked up the Mamiya Universal/Super Press 23 and it appears to be very large. I am not sure I would like a camera that big. Right now I am loving my 6X6 Super Ikonta IV but would love a wide angle. - Jim

yea and if it was a medium format digi rangefinder? would they pay for a 6x7 sensor? i guess it would be in the 20 000 range
then the whining about unaffordable would be on

anyway, i expect a too high price even for this retarded obsolete film version...

you can't say a new product x is useless because there is product y that is just as good although wasn't made in the last...how many decades?

Wide angle isn't really my cup o' tea, but kudos to Fuji and Cosina for making a new medium format film camera. Interesting that they decided not to make a folder like the earlier version.
 
With a 55mm lens and the 67 camera size, I am not sure there would be much room for a folder to unfold since the focal length is so short. Maybe it just wasn't practical. Folders are really nice though being so compact. - Jim
 
Am I the only one who thinks that the lens should have been a bit wider? I mean - 55 on 6x7 rather close to 50 on cropped 6x6 - about 28 in 35mm terms. If I would (I do not) plan a kit of both Bessa cameras I would much prefer 45 (or 50) & 80 to 55 & 80. But that is just me. I have Mamiya 6 with all 3 lenses. I would swap the 50 for 45 or even 40 if there was one.

The 55mm on a 6X7 is equivalent to a 28mm on a 35mm camera. I used to shoot with a 55mm a lot when I had a 6X7 Pentax. The 45mm lens was equivalent to a 24mm. - jim
EDIT: The 45mm was equivalent to a 22mm lens. Sorry for the error.

I'm not usually on to get worked up about product announcements but hot diggedy dog! I will be buying into that in a flash!
 
Had it been a folder at 60mm or 65 it might have become a body I took everywhere inlieu of the Mamiya 7, but as it is 65mm is my out and out fave FL for 6x7. Looks a great camera for those who love this FL and combined with a 80mm standard, I can see Fuji they chose this and not wider, bec it pairs with 80 so well. Personally, and I realise this is unusual, I like to bring with me my 50, 65 and 80 for teh Mamiya 7. If I take one it will be the 65 and two, the 65 and 50.

I too wonder how 'deep' the camera will be.

It could have one thing on the Mamiya 7 and that's build. Before I get crucified know that I used and loved the 7 but found it a bit fragile for my needs.

Not as deep as when it had been made a folder. Biogon/Russar derived symmetric wides are quite deep lenses, and have little air space between rear lens and film, so there is nothing much that could be folded on them.

The Mamiya Press 50mm/6.3 measures some 8cm front lens to rear lens, and while the Fuji lens is less wide, it is faster and has quite a few extra lenses, so it will be deeper.

What do you guys do with your Mamiya 7s, hammer nails in with them? 😱

I've been using on for quite a while now and have shot hundreds of rolls of film but I don't see anything wrong with the build quality.
