New Yorker article by Anthony Lane

Late in the article Mr. Lane described the M8 shutter sound as a "kiss" -- a term he referred to earlier related to a film M.

I wonder what word he would have used if before he had ever experienced the sound of an M3 under the same circumstances.

Long before the age of digital I heard the Leica M shutter described as quiet as a sparrows fa*t (well a sparrow passing wind anyways)

Excellent article, I was just reading it before I dropped by RFF. When he said he'd never owned a Leica M, but dropped $600 on a D-Lux, I did think "dude, you could have had an M2 for that!"

Mag arrived yesterday so I read the article on the commute tonight. As always Lane writes well, the best bit for me was the reason why a roll of film is 36 exposures long... ;)

This article appears in the Style issue of the New Yorker, but then perhaps that is an appropriate category for Leica cameras?
