Is the only difference between the ZM and SW (Superwide) is the lack of a viewfinder on the latter? How could that account for some ~$800-1000 difference?

the viewfinder is the major reason why I have ZM.

And some (me) would argue they should have spent a little more and made them work a little better than they do.

The RF/VF of the ZI is better than the meter readout...And some (me) would argue they should have spent a little more and made them work a little better than they do.

If I was shooting superwides on 35mm, then a ZI SW at 299 Euros sounds like a great deal. My Zeiss Ikon is at the top of my list of cameras I never should have sold.
Although for about the same, you could get a Bessa T, which has the range finder, should you need it.

Back on topic.
I've been looking at my Zeiss lenses, those that I'm interested in, and how they differ from the voigtlanders i have and have been replacing.
The main thing is the correction and sharpness. They're bigger and slower as a result, but i'm fine with this.
Part of me would love a faster 50 planar, 35 or 25 Biogon, but not at the compromise of the qualities they already have.
Is a 50/1 Planar or a 35/1 Biogon a possibility? Given the cost, size and low volume of the Noctiluxes, i can't see them putting the money into them for M mount.
A 1.4 25mm or 21mm Biogon? I feel, looking at the respective Summiluxes, that this also won't be reasonable, without them no longer having that correction.
So what would i like and think is possible?
I'm hoping for a new 85/90mm f2. Their f4 just isn't appealing at the moment and their old f2 was certainly interesting. I'd want a competitor to the 90 Summicron tho, not a 50/1.5 style of image.
I guess even a 75/1.4 would be cool, and not unreasonable to expect. Whatever it is, i'm excited to see it!

No. Planar and Biogon optical designs do not lend themselves to that speed and coverage.. . . Is a 50/1 Planar or a 35/1 Biogon a possibility?. . .

what zeiss owe to ZM line is the 35/1,4. apart of that I am not sure how much life they are still going to put into ZM. maybe that was it.

IMO Zeiss did a great job on all the ZM lenses but I think the ZM 21 Biogon and the ZM Sonnar 50 are exceptionally special and would be very hard to replace.

+1 for the sonnar, but to which of the two 21 Biogons do you refer?

I thought about starting a new thread, but this one's title matches and it's already near the top of the page, so I hope the OP doesn't mind my hijacking.
Is it still possible to buy a new (or ex-demo) ZI for a reasonable price? (Not $5400 for a bundle or $1600 for an ex-demo that the local shops I've found are asking.
) I'm tossing up between a ZI, Bessa or the Nikon S3 reissue, but would go with the ZI if I can find one with a warranty for a decent price.

sadly, I think at this point it's going to be next to impossible to get a new ZI. I now regret not getting a second one when I had the chance, I like mine so much. $1600 for a demo may be the best you can do, and they know it. ;-)Is it still possible to buy a new (or ex-demo) ZI for a reasonable price? 21/4.5. I have never had the pleasure of working with the other but it could also be very good.
