New Zhou Case for Leica CL

I just purchased a half case for Konica RF. I must say he keep on improving his products. It's a right attitude.

I dont really like the look of the bulging grips they look like it has a disease or something. Its a good price though when you compare with the Japanese and Italian offerings.

I have the old CL case and its well made and well worth the money, I like the bumps.
I also have his case for my Bessa R2, equally excellent. And a nice guy to do business with.

i have to admit I'm too not crazy about the design of the previous model. Luckily i caught the strap before the camera hit the ground.
Rivets, now there's an idea.
However this new design has the camera 'sitting' in the case. The strap is not attached to either camera lug.

He was redesigning to eliminate this problem i believe. I hope.

The Leica design was certainly a lousy one. And the original strap, maybe because it's thin rubber, easily slips off your shoulder. I had to have Peter at CRR repair the RF window after my CL's last drop.

Hi Dougford,

I must apologize about the previous design. I was trying to add a lug to hand the camera horizontally. Obviously, your photo shows it's a unporper design. The stitched lug was not strong enough to hold the camera with a heavy lens. The new released case is to address this issue. Lugs are fasted with stitches and rivets. Would you mind to send me a PM? I will send you a new case for your CL to replace the fault one.

Someone has sent me the concern if the camera would slip out of the case easily. Actually the velcro fastened the camera body quite tight. Also one of the camera lug (the low lug at the left side) will be wrapped by the case.

Mr. Zhou - I apologize for the late reply.

Thank you so much for sending me one of your newly designed CL half-case. It’s performing beautifully, very secure strap lugs with no hint of the camera being able to slip out of the case. Much improved design!
Blessings to you and your family.

I have a question for users of Mr. Zhou's case for the Leica CL. The velcro fastener overlaps the case where the eyepiece is - doesn't this get in the way of viewing? I usually press my eye right up to the window, and it looks like the case will be in the way.

Is it a problem?

Thanks!

My new CL came with the new Mr Zhou case.

I can't believe how much I like this combination.

(you can see it on pg.3 of the CL Glamor shots thread)

I was concerned when I saw the Velcro flap bump
under the window, but it is no problem in use, and
yes, as you can see, I do wear glasses.

The Velcro fastening, rather than a screw, makes it much
easier to remove and replace the case when changing film...
plus, it sits evenly on any flat surface.

I have one of his cases for my Contax G2. Just a fantastic piece. I also couldn't believe how fast his delivery was!

Why haven't I seen these cases before? I've been pining for a half case for my M4-P for a year, but buying a case that costs 1/5th of the price I payed for the body has never made sense. Good thing that mr. Zhou is out there and putting quality cases up for sale at a more reasonable price, now I can get a case for my CL and my M4-P and pay less than what I'd pay for a Japanese/European case.... If only mr. Zhou had an offering for the Klasse S/W I'd be in leather heaven!

I was wondering about this to. Any other comments from people who have this case? Thanks.

I just bought this case and the soft shutter release from Mr. Zhou.

Here's a pic of it in action. Feels very nice, it's a snug fit on the camera with the velcro closure, and doesn't get in the way of shooting, even with eyeglasses on.

I have an R2A now and love it's features, but still pine for the meterless CL I had w/ a Mr. Zhou case. That was a really great setup, especially w/ a 50 DR hung on the front. Loved the case, as I'm not comfortable w/ the CL's lug arrangement at all. Wonder if that same designer later went on the design the Bessa strap lugs?

He needs to add a line for the Nikon S2. I hope he is listening. As for the bulges...they proved an excellent grip to the camera. I use the case because I never know where I will be setting the camera down. Also, if your hands exude a lot of sweat in the summer it provides a better grip without damaging the camera.
