OK, playing around with the s/h R-D1 I bought a few days ago. I still do not have a lens for the camera but I'm just familiarising myself with the controls.
One thing I immediately noticed today worried me.
The centre focus patch appears to be in the centre of the viewfinder but the framelines do not appear to centre around the focus patch. 28 framelines are about OK but the 50 are way off.
Is this normal, e.g. do the framelines not centre around the focus patch or is there a problem with the camera? It comes with 6 months warranty from a reputable dealer so I can take it back if it is wrong.
TIA for your advice

Louis - the focus patch stays put but the framelines move as the lens is focused, to compensate for parallax. Voigtlander Bessas and (I think) the Zeiss Ikon work like this; in other rangefinders, the finder patch and the framelines both move.

Phew! That explains why I did not see this when I bought the camera. I auditioned it using a 50 cron and I did not notice any problem. I guess it just goes to show that I must get a lens for this baby before I play with it any more.
I'm undecided at present between a 28/f2.8 Elmarit and a 35 f/2 Summicron ASPH, both on e-Bay.
BTW, I have used your website extensively since getting the beast, it is great .... and churlish as it is of me mention it, it is definitely Louis and Louise (the last time I looked)
