I am new to Leica and the M8. I am in the process of selling my Canon Mark II 1DS and several L lenses. Now what to buy???:
First a bit about my personal use of the camera. I am an amature who takes walk around shots: family, portait and travel tourist and normal nature shots.
So now my questions:
1) Black M8 versus chrome
2) Which lenses. My thougts were to get a 24, 50 or 65 and 90. I assume I do not need any external rangefinder attachment for these lenses. But which ones should I buy? It seems like I would loose out if I did not get a low f especially on the 21 (early morning landscapes) and 90 ( low depth of field portratis).
3) New/used? I would rather do it right with the lenses although I am not opposed to used lenses (let me know if you have any for sale!).
3) How about cases - which to buy?
4) Any other key accessories to buy (beyond memory cards) such a extra battery, filters or grips?
5) Where to buy my cameral, lenses and other stuff?
Thank you!!!!!!!
Bill

Welcome to the forum. I got mine from Tony at PopFlash (one of the forum sponsors -- link is over there to your left) and he was great. Give him a call.
I've got a few Leica lenses but for now using a 21 (with 28mm VF in the shoe) and a 50.
I've got the Luigi case without the grip, drop down flap in the back. Perfect protection.
You will need an extra battery.
Uh, you know that the price of a new M8 goes up around $600 on Monday, right?

Don't buy more than one lens now. Leica has new lenses at more reasonable prices coming out in Nov. Go to http://www.lfi-online.de/ceemes/page/show/index_e
for info. Look at the 30 and 75mm for a choice of 2.
While you're waiting buy a Voigtländer Super Wide Heliar 15/4.5 and have fun with that. You may find you have it on the camera a lot even when you get your other lenses.
I bought black but people who know cameras walk up to me and start talking about the camera even thought I have the M8 covered up.
If I had it to do all over again I'd get siliver . It's really classy.

1). Whatever looks prettiest to you. However black better matches most lenses and accessories.
2.) Lenses are something of a personal preference. Personally on the M8 I think 24(or 25mm), 35mm(or 40mm) and 75mm make a nice set. 28mm and 50mm might also be a good option. Choose between Voigtlander, Zeiss and Leica depending on what you can afford. For nature you'd probably better have a 90mm.
3.) Cases? Well, I prefer a small bag. Options Billingham Hadley range or S3 or L2, Domke F5xB, Artisan and Artist Evans Walker.
4.) At least 1 extra batt. from Leica or China if you dare
. Grip? Well I like LeicaGoodies SLING and Tim Isaac's Thumbs Up.
5.) Where to buy? I'd get most of it from a good pro store and see if you can get a deal. Leica's prices are pretty fixed so buying online won't help you much with the body.
Enjoy.
