The M8, when it arrives next week, will be my first Leica Rangefinder. I have been shooting in digital with Canon for the past several years. My favorite lens has been the 24 -70 L 2.8 from Canon. My guestion is this...if you were to pair this camera with your first (and for a time, your only) lens, which would it be? My current order includes the Tri-Elmar f4, 28/35/50, which, with the factor, seems to fit in my sweetspot, at least for focal distance. Thanks in advance your your thoughts.:)

Interesting Question. I, too, am a first time Leica user (when I finally get my M8...:bang: )
My first lens will be a 50 'Lux because I like available light and appr. 67 mm sounds interesting.
(Also because on my Contax G's, I mainly used the 50mm and the 90mm.)

Cheers,

Peter

I love to hear that there are people buying an M8 that have never used a Leica rangefinder before. I may not need to wait as long as I thought to get one at a price I can afford :D

Jay,

I've used that same Tri-Elmar on film bodies and have no qualms about it EXCEPT its speed. (I sold it because of this one issue.)

You MUST obtain at least one Leica lens of f2 or faster. I'd recommend any 2/35 Summicron with the only determing factor being what your wallet can now support.

Available light and portability is where the Leica M shines: the T-E is just to s-l-o-w to be your only Leica optic. It's a great take-along for a holiday trip to a sunny climate or for shooting a wedding when you also use a powerful flash unit but the T-E would never be my choice for an all-around lens that shows off the brilliance of the M design.
