Well, it's been a week.
The M2 arrived. After shooting a II and a IIIa,
the M2 IS a TANK! My goodness, I'll have to
hire a Sherpa to lug it around for me on trips.
Lenses ...
I tried mounting my Summar w ith a Leitz adaptor
and that works well enough. Except the framelines
do no display so well. The 50mm verticals do not
appear, and the left 90mm vertical is visible. I can
hold the frame selector lever to compensate but
that seems kludgy. Is there a DIY adjustment to
fix this?
For the time being, I've bought a collapsible
Summicron from another RFF member and am
awaiting delivery on it. I don't know if it's the
answer, but if it worked for HCB, how bad can
it be?
I am also looking into the C Sonnar. I went
over to B+H yesterday -- they had the Planar
but not the Sonnar on display. I mounted the
Planar, and darn it, the frame lines do not
come up right with it mounted, either. This
time, the verticals displayed well, but the top
norizontal brigthtline did not come up with
the Planar mounted. Again, I could correct
by holding the frame selector lever.
Come to think of it, since the brightlines
showed differently for the Summar and the
Planar, is this an issue with the lens mounts
and not the camera? Or is this a commonplace
with M-series Leicas and I just have to get with
the program?
