After many hours reading post after post, and months of pining for this camera, I've finally taken the plunge and bought my R-D1. So thanks.

Only problem is, the shipping of my lens is taking longer than I thought. So I've set the date and some camera settings, and now I'm dying to try it out.

I'll post again if I live through the anticipation.

Take care!

Well, welcome. good choice! I am sure you will like it.
Camera and lens are equally important though! Where is your lens supposed to come from?

Rob.

I'm enjoying your photos. Seems you probably serve the Nashua Telegraph very well. Welcome, and I'm sure many of us will vicariously enjoy your new kit along with you.

It's great to be a new owner, isn't it?

Welcome to RFF - it only gets better from here, depending on how you define "better".

Thanks everybody. It's good to be here.

I'm looking forward to posting some of my new work, and seeing all of yours...

Can I ask, of the R-D1 users here, what is your primary lens?

Ed,

I tend to use a CV 35 1.7 most of the time although it does go in phases - used to be my CV 28 1.9. I have the 50 1.5 Nokton and 50 1.5 Summarit both of which I use very occasionally. I also have a CV 75 2.5, but haven't used that for a long time.

I have been looking at getting a 35 F2 Asph 'cron or 35 F2 Biogon for some time and maybe a 21, possibly CV. However, I just can't make up my mind and I'm not sure I'm up to the technical capabilities of what I currently have yet. Probably just GAS.

Regards

Gid

35 Cron 4th, it has a FOV roughly equivalent to a standard 50mm (53 to be exact like the I-61) lens, but of course the choice will depend on what you use on your full frame camera as a primary lens, if you tend to use 35mm as your normal lens, then you should look at 21mm lenses.

And of course a warm welcome!

Just a question about the CV 35 1.7. I definitely like a fast lens, but how do you find the size/weight of it? I've read a lot of good things about that lens, though...

Welcome Ed! The photos on your site are awesome.

Most of my shots are of people at events like parties and weddings. Since the photos are mostly low light, my primary lens is either 50/1.0 (Leica Noctilux) or 75/2.0 (Leica Summicron)... evenly split between those two lenses. Great lenses for capturing faces.

Main lenses on my R-D1...? Jupiter-8 50/2. Minolta M-Rokkor 40/2. CV 25/4. And a Jupiter-9 85/2 for the few tele shots I take.

Where have I seen your name before? Your work is great, but doesn't look familiar at all.. but your name... wozniak...

Ed,

It is relatively small - smaller than the 28 1.9 and 50 1.5 - and light. This is one of the main reasons I use it in preference to the 28 1.9 - less obvious. If you want really small, the CV 35 2.5 is really small and gets great reviews. With regard to fast lenses, don't forget that you can change ISO on the fly and at 1600 the shots are still excellent, so if you'd normally shoot 400 film you've always got a couple of stops extra at you disposal.

If you haven't already been there, check out Sean Reid's reviews of the RD-1 and a variety of lenses - www.reidreviews.com

Thanks, Gid. I've checked out Sean's reviews many times. I already have a CV 35/2.5 coming in the mail, but was having some hesitations that I might want something faster. But I've decided to try it out for now and see if I need more speed down the road.

Thanks for all your input!

Howdy. Most people who seem to know my last name are thinking of Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computers. (no relation :( )

Welcome to the R-D1 family.
Your pictures are really impressive!

My primary lens on my R-D1 recently is 35 summilux asph, as I used to use 50mm lens on my film camera.

Hi Ed,

That 35/2.5 is a great lens, esp. given its tiny size.

Cheers,

Sean Reid
