NEX adapters and Leica Infinity Lock?

From what I understand, the infinity lock on some older Leica screwmount lenses can sorta "run aground" on some adapters, unless either the lens or the adapter is modified to accommodate it. Can any of you that have first hand experience with the various M39 -> NEX adapters that are out there shed any light on this? Any adapters that you know that do have clearance and/or any adapters that you know don't have clearance for it? Specifically eyeballing the Fotodiox "Pro", as it a looks like it may have been built with this in mind, but I'm open to ideas.

I, too, would like actual use info on using ltm lenses on Sony cameras. I see this is a older entry with no answers. Surely someone has tried this. Please help. Thanks.

I've always used an adapter LTM>M mount for my M39>Nex needs and haven't run into any problems. I did get a new Fotodiox adapter when I upgraded to a Sony A7ii from my old Nex-7 as the Nex adapter wouldn't work on the A7ii. I believe it was because the A7ii mount is machined to closer tolerances than the Nex-7 mounts were.

I have used a couple of different cheap LTM to E-mount adapters from ebay on my Sony a7 and a7III cameras. The Kiwi and Fotasy brands work well with a wide variety of Canon, Nikon, Jupiter and LTM Zeiss lenses. I have not experienced any problems even on lenses like the Canon 50/1.2 and 50/1.4 that have the lever style infinity locks. I do not own any leica brand lenses, having sold them off when I got one with an ebay purchase.

The Head Bartender has some information about the types of LTM adapters that are available, and which will work with infinity locks. In short, you need the kind with the cut out to accommodate the infinity lock (Type I or Type III below). Photo credit to the Head Bartender:



Some LTM lenses have the infinity lock closer to the lens mount and cause problems at infinity on adapters without the cut out.

FWIW -- I have a generic L39 to NEX adapter and have several Canon LTM lenses with infinity locks -- not had an issue. Mine does focus slightly past infinity -- not a problem for me -- better than the alternative!

I ended up buying 3 different (?) brands of ltm to Sony adapters. All block the infinity lock of both Leica and Nikkor lens that I have. So, having a woodworking lathe, I decided to try turning off a thin ring (they adapters are aluminum) using the end of a file as a cutter. Worked like a charm - so one of my adapters now works!
