Next best thing to a Noctilux?

hacker, thanks for telling prices. it is difficult to say how much it is worth price now. I couldn't say it is bargain for sure but the initial market price 1600$ sounds quite reasonable.

When we factor in inflation and benchmark against Leica in general, I would think Leica prices are on a bull run. Whether it is expensive, I think Leica holds its value pretty well in the used market, so it is extremely cheap to own. Imagine buying a Noctilux 2 years ago, use it, and still earn a small profit out of it.

seems to me that as long as there are digital cameras accepting m-mount (or ltm) lenses there will always be a market for limited production-run lenses with specific "character".

however, i'm not so sure how much value an M body will have in 50 years if film is unavailable.

I'm referring of course to lenses. However, I stand corrected comparing Leica lenses to the stock market. The stock market goes up and down, but the Leica prices seems to only go up. 🙄

I think that prices for used Leica equipment have never been more favorable. Pull out a 1991 Shutterbug for prices then look at prices for a Good User M3 or M2. I do think prices are up over the last year or so, especially for vintage lenses in good condition.

I wonder what will happen if Leica goes bankrupt or stops producing a digital M mount camera. A guy I know picked up a M6+Nocti combo off ebay a couple of years ago for 1000$. I cant see the prices go up unless there is a digital M in production.

Obviously that is true and a real possibility. If there is no Leica and no digital RFs, the demand will continually drop as the existing M8s fail - along with the demand will follow prices.

Time to consider selling when the general wisdom is that the price can only go up!!🙂

Rather, it is because of investments outside of photography that allow the purchasing of nice equipment 😎 .

Yeah. Thats true. I wasnt trying to bash what you said btw. The Konicas, zunow, nikkor and all is collector pieces that will probably only go up in value just because its few of them anyway, so I wouldnt have any problems investing in them. 🙂

I consider all my equipment purchases as depreciating assets and even if there is a case for "rare" items, I hardly consider them as nothing more than tools for me. Any price increase is a side benefit. 🙄

Hacker, I can't wait to see a Hexanon, Noctilux, Nikkor, Zunow, CV, Canon 50mm fast lens shootout. I'd chip in towards film and developing if you use film. I think it would be fun to see.

I'm sourcing for a Zunow or a Nikkor-N f1.1 right now, and I hope it does not get bashed because of its price. 😀

These lenses you mention won`t be bashed for their price tag, it`s not written "Leica" or "Leitz" on these ...🙄
