Next Lens for my M4-2

Good Day All,

I have just got my M4-2 with a 28mm F2.8 and I think I am going to start to look at my options for a secound lens. I am going to head out on a holiday this summer and would like to bring two lenses with me.

I am not sure if I should go with the 75mm F2.5 or the 90mm F2.5.

I would like the 90mm the best but I am not sure how hard it would be to focus on my M4-2. I have never owned a longer then a 50mm with a RF before.

Any feedback would be great.

For travel, with either one or two cameras, I like the 28/50 combo a lot.

I agree with the other comments. 28/50 would be a great combination. However, if you're set on the 75 or 90 as a second lens, my thought would be a 75, but others will certainly disagree. I just find the 90 less likely to end up on my camera, and the 75 is a great compromise between 50-90mm.

I used a 28+50 combination on a film SLR exclusively for a year and a half and in reality, I used the 28 most of the time.

Now, with the M, I like to carry either 35+90 or just a 50. My advice is to get a 90 first, a 50 later. The gap is long at first, but you'll have a more versatile kit in the end. 75 is an odd focal length, loved by some, disliked by others. Not quite this or that, IMO. And with an M4-2 (as opposed to -P), do you even have framelines for 75? I can't remember.

A possible course of action would be to get the first version, non-M, non-tele Elmarit 90/2.8 and the classic 50/2.8 Elmar. Together, they should cost no more than a new-ish 90/2.5 Summarit.

I think you should go with a 50mm first, then a 90mm later.

I was thinking of the 50 too, but I can only get one at a time so I was thinking of a 28/50/90 kit by the end of the year.

I want a longer lens to take photos of people, the 28 is way to wide for that.

No Frame lines for the 28 or 75, just 35,50,90,135
