I just want to tell you all that this site, in particular the Voigtländer forum that I frequent, really is the best right now, indeed!

Reasons to say that, other than kissing up to all experts here, is:

1. Good tone in the threads. Posts really ouze of enthusiasm for photography and cameras. Indeed.

2. People are not using abbrevations. This is welcoming for me as a not english speaking and also to our newcomers in photo.

Above are obvious behaviors to you gentlemen, off course. But having surfed around quite a bit about rangefinder cameras and photography I can tell you it is not like this everywhere.

🙂 Anders

IMHO AFAIK U R8 but the abbrevations will come along with the GAS
Nice to have you on the list Anders - tjulla hopsan

Hey Anders,

This forum has drawbacks too. You will wake up one day and realize that you have got at least half a dozen ex-soviet rangefinder cameras, and you will want more....

🙂

So be careful.

I most not buy an ex-soviet rangefinder today
I most buy a Leica rangefinder LTM II b from Ruben
cheers

Hej Ruben. You are probably right. If I could diagnose myself I would say i have smelled this gas already... :=)

Hi Berci,

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Visiting Estonia on a business trip this summer I found myself with some three hours to kill in Tallinn airport. I got the bright idea to get a taxi downtown for a haircut. I explained to the driver my time frame, and he had a sister working in a saloon, so there we went and he waited outside (!). There was a waiting list at the saloon so I went for a walk in the shopping mal there. Hey now hoodellidoley - what is that? A shop trading Soviet cameras and binoqulars! In I went and there I stayed. Until the taxi driver found me (!) and said hes sister was waiting to cut my hair and we really should hurry. OK, so to to saloon but I could not focus on anythinmg than all the stuff I just fondled downstairs. After the hair cut I ran down and purchased an Kiev 4 and a military binoqular. The taxi driver was driving like crazy to the airport, not stoping or red and got me back just in time for boarding. Did not have time to collect change from the driver so he got the big bill he deserved!

Gasprom?

Anders

'Nice culture here'. Does that means that we are cultured too? Welcome to the club Unsharp! After joining this place I acquired 3 Bessa R2 and 5 35mm CV lenses! If that is not a manifestation of GAS I do not know what is it! My wife thinks she has cured me of GAS but I do not know how long will this last! 😛

By the way, Ruben - two years ago in the summer i went around in Denmark with some friends. We had a very nice bikink -day too... Helsingor-Gilleleje-Hillerod
The path along the beach is amazing! And the one through the forest to Hillerod, too...

With regards to culture, as someone recently explained to me....

On this planet there are three races of people
1.) people with culture
2.) people with agri-culture
3.) and Australians

made me chuckle. Sorry people from Oz, just having a wee laugh at your expense. You're a great bunch. Feel free to fire into me now....

(think I'll shut up)

Ha ha you guys are unbelievable!

Peter, how many R2's again? Very special addiction. Im impressed! You are a rangefondler.

I have yet only a Cannonet 17 and the Kiev 4. Although waiting for a Bessa R3A purchsed from a forum member. It feels a bit empty right now I must admit.

Anders

Unsharp next time you in Estonia ask the taxi driver to bring you to "Jaama turg" ( thats an open market) . And dont forget to bring a biger bag with you 😀

So Ruben,

How much is that Leica? I am asking this out of sheer curiosity.

I have got a different version of GAS. Got rid of all of my cameras and bought a new XPan II.

My new disorder is buying excessive amounts of film.

So how much is it?

Well, uh, I guess there are a few people here to whom that term applies. 🙂 🙂 🙂
LOL! (oops)

But having surfed around quite a bit about rangefinder cameras and photography I can tell you it is not like this everywhere.

I hear you. I discovered this forum a few weeks ago and I've been particularly impressed by a number of things.

First of all by the quality of the posts and of the people here. I was just reading the rec.photo.equipment.35mm over on Usenet and noted the frequent use of terms such as "nitwit" and "moron" and I'm really glad there's none of that nonsense here.

Everybody seems to respect each other and each other's opinion although they might agree to disagree.

Also, the diversity, particularly geographically. I just read this thread. Stockholm, Netherlands, Singapore, Estonia. Wow! Literally the photo enthusiasts of the world coming together. 🙂

Jep, here we find a nice bunch. One, if not THE, reason seems to be the range of cameras used by the members.
Would anybody here dare to mention that he gets great results from a J8 over at PN?

That's just because we're unique........

Come down here one day and you'll see. 😀

As someone who is also relatively new to the place, I'd like to second Unsharp's comment.
Everyone is generally courteous, folks are well informed, and there isn't the incessant whining seen at other sites.
