I don't get it. According to http://www.antiquecameras.net/leicascrewlenses.html the value of a nickel, uncoated Elmar is only $100. Usually our bartender's valuation sets the pricing of our classic toys. Is he so wrong here or have these old Elmars appreciated 400% this last year?

I think the market for user cameras have dropped, but collectibles has risen.
A black Leica II or III with nickel finishing and a nickel Elmar are commanding top dollar.

And if that Nickel Elmar 50 has the "11 o'clock" Infinity lock, that probably pushes the price up some more...
I quickly scanned the list and the prices seem to be about 20-30% lower than what I'm seeing from KEH, Collectible Cameras, etc. for Leitz LTM lenses...

Watch that step!
That website's values are just a guide at best, their prices on the CZJ lenses in LTM are CRAZY WRONG! ~ if they were just partly right I'd be a rich man with the lenses I've HAD and SOLD ....they need to correct alot there concerning many lens values.

If you take a look at the headings on most of my value guides - there are dates when they were last updated. The SM lenses hasnt been updated in some time, since Aug 2010 in fact.
Here is an uncoated Elmar at $ 138 on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/Leica-Elmar-50m...092?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item483e7ee5e4
another at $ 175

It takes time to update all my pages so please be patient.
As far as the CZJ lenses, that pages hasnt been updated in 5 years....
probably will never update the prices again given the lack of interest.... still the page has other useful data.
Bear with me, again, it takes time to update all my pages, so I try to list the last time updated on all the pages...
Thanks for the feedback

i don't quite understand the value of an 11 o'clock infinity lock, but it looks like my elmar doesn't have 'it'. i had it CLAd after purchase, and have been using it regularly instead of a more modern 50mm. the results are very good, considering the 80 year gap between camera and lens production dates.

...crap, as usual, sold at the wrong time. I had (HAD) a beautiful black iid, with 11 o'clock Elmar, sold a couple years ago.

Thanks Dan! It seems that LTM prices are on the rise again. Many lenses score higher than last August. In your list the nickel 50mm Elmar has gained 200-300%.

Amazing! And that one is not even half as pretty as many others I've seen (including my recently acquired 1933 example).

I think the "value" of the 11 o'clock Infinity lock is primarily to collectors of early Leicas, namely the "Standard" / I and the early II.
The high position of the Infinity-lock interferes with the slow-speeds knob on the pre-C Leica III cameras.
