Night Photos with Nokton 35mm at 1.2

I just posted some images in the Leica pages of my Nokton 35 shot at f 1.2 at night with high intensity lights direct into the lens. The first part of the thread has an image shot with the summilux asph 35 and shows considerable flare. Take a look at the images shot with my Nokton. They're on the second page.

Excellent lens and handles flare better than the asph Summilux 35.

I'd love to see a comparison between the 35/1.2 and 40/1.4.

Here are the images---

Shot on HP5 rated at 800 processed in Acufine --- The train image was focused on the front of the train and the lens was set at f 1.2 as is the second shot. On the second shot I prefocused where the fellow in the front is. The lights in the left side of the frame of the train are high intensity halogen lights and most likely 1000 watts or greater. The shot on the right is a crop of the second shot showing the sharp and OOF background areas.

Looking at the negs closely they are very sharp particularly for a 1.2 aperture.

Have you made any adjustments to the corners? The lack of falloff is impressive if that’s straight off the neg

No adjustments to anything other than a very slight contrast boost in curves. My Finescan Fuji scanner doesn't have B&W profiles so I scan in a linear mode and adjust curves. The left and center images are full frame. Flare resistance is very impressive with the CV. I shot inside a bar in New Orleans where the inside exposure was between eight and ten stops lower than the light coming through a window that was in the frame. I shot at 1.2 and there was no sign of flare in the frame.

The lens is really an amazing lens. I haven't shot with the asph 35 summilux but had the v1 summilux 35 for many years and the v4 35 summicron for many years as well. The Nokton easily beats the old summilux in every respect. I even feel it equals the v4 summicron f stop for f stop. I haven't done a critical side by side test but from normal shooting I like the CV 1.2 as well as the v4 optically. Many do not like the size of the CV but it's been no issue for me. I dislike the size of the v4 summicron and feel it's too small to operate the aperture easily with the hood on. The locking tabs for the hood obscure easy access to the very small aperture ring on the v4. I don't like the focus tab either and have just purchased a Zeiss biogon 35 ZM that will replace the v4. The Zeiss and CV are much easier to handle for me. I plan to keep the CV for night work and the ZM for general shooting.
